Opinions On New Training Idea
« on: November 02, 2006, 07:48:50 PM »
First post here so whats up

First off, my body doesnt respond well to lifting in just one type of weight/set range. because of this, i work a three week cycle...

Week 1: Heavy weight, 5-8 reps
Week 2: Medium weight, 8-10 reps
Week 3: Light weight, 10-15 reps

Its been working pretty well but i can feel myself about to hit a rut so ive taken the last two weeks off to do only body-weight exercises and on Monday i want to come back with something new and was thinking about doing all weight ranges in one day. i wont go through the whole split but this is sort of what i was thinking using a standard Monday,Tuesday-Thursday,Friday split...

(Example)
Chest
Flat Bench: 4x5-8 (to failure)
Incline Dumbell: 3x8-10
Dumbell Fly: 3x10-12

What do you guys think? i seems like it would work in principle by working all muscle fibers but im not sure i want to try it if it would be a total mistake. if it is, are there any other training programs like this that dont just focus on heavy weight and low rep ranges?

sounds good, its not new. I suggest (if you dont already) to keep a journal and note the weight /rests between sets ect..

check out this site, this guy has some interesting training philosophies... www.robthoburn.com

absolutely... beyond monitoring "how you feel" about your training sessions you should be tracking your actual results... while in the short term this may seem fuitile, but once you have tracked 4-6 months of data you can review it and track your actual progress

I have only from the beginning of the year kept a journal, its easier then to see what works and what doesnt... I also keep cardio info in the journal, average heartrate cals burnt ect.

Plus, keep your nutrition journal and bodyweight records together with your training log in a three ring binder (every month I take it out and put in a storage box and fill it up again the next month) and you've got an invaluable roadmap of where you've been.  I feel lost without it.
