My Gf's parents have a large log cabin near Branson MO on a lake. They had alot of the log cabin mags so i flipped through. If u can find the land thats the way to go, depending on where u are in the States. I think thats what i'm going to do when I retire.

My brother has a log cabin in Utah.  I've never been, but he goes there all the time.

I'm familiar with the sight, infact one of my cousins Fred had his home profiled on the show a few years back

It was the culmination of what our family jokingly refers to as Frederick's folly, ...for a while we really weren't sure which, his folly, or his labour of love. He bought a turn-of-the-century mansion, and lovingly restored it himself ...piece by piece. Matched tiles, flooring the whole nine yards. The DIY project took him over 10 yrs to complete, and he kept pouring more and more money into it the whole time. But, when he was done, HGTV featured it on their program.

Usually my taste a more traditional, but I really like this house that I saw on a programme called Grand Designs. It's built on the edge of a secluded Scottish loch. No fucking neighbours  









I like the staircase. You can't tell from this pic but the steps are made of glass

Diesel, I like the spaciousness of that one, ...but for some reason it doesn't strike me as very warm.
It reminds me more of a house, rather than a home.

I know what you mean. That seems to be the problem with modern houses, they just don't seem lived in if you know what I mean. The thing I like about this house is it's location and the huge windows, which lets in all that natural light, and what you can't see from the pics is the spectacular views over the Loch and of the Scottish Highlands

Location, location, location. This house is in Scotland, which means about 10 nice sunny days a year and about 300 dreary ones, as typified in the first pic.

Also, some modernist homes are able to mitigate against the sterility of the layouts through the use of various design devices.

As well, these places look better when looking lived in, before the photographers hide everyday items out of sight for the pics.

I recently watched the Travel Channel which I love and they had a show on awesome Log Cabins.  Man there are some of the best homes around.  Just beautiful.  I love cabins and the mountains.  We had one when I was a kid in Running Springs, CA.  I love the mountains.  I like southwestern style homes too.

that's a beautiful house, but not a home.  it doesnt have that comfortable/homey feeling.
