Jay, I guess Only has not reached this point yet (he's a slow reader), but he has some interesting stories about Wyn, who is one of those ultra colorful characters in this game called bodybuilding.
I don't have all the facts here but it is my understanding that Wyn was the man behind the success of Jack's Health studios (What was the official name?).
That short guy you saw with Wyn just might have been Jack, because Jack is not tall by any means and definitely not a Steve Reeves look-a-like.
Many years ago, Wyn took a huge penthouse room in a very fancy hotel that came with a private butler (his official title was something much more dignified) and invited all the top lifters and bodybuilders in the state to stop by and learn how to make Big Bucks in a new business he was about to start up on a national scale.
So about 20 of us show up (It was a small state!) and Wyn makes us comfortable with a room service luncheon and his down to earth attitude and demeanor.
Then he starts offering a hundred dollarto anyone who can do the most pushups and another hundred to anyone who can do the most sit ups, and continues to pass out hundred dollar bills like they were singles.
Now we're all got money in our pockets and real good friends and he gathers us around and gives this sales pitch claiming that we were all going to be super-rich by joining up with him and selling Wynn Suppliments and Protien and other "health related" products.
And it's a pyramid scheme, but a pyramid scheme when Pyramid schemes are held in high esteem; so most of us are ready, willing, and able to shell out the $100 entry fee to be at the top of that pyramid.
So we all left there with a case or two of whatever it was that he was selling, but now we were salesmen too, but for some reason it only lasted a couple months more. Never did find out what happened to that enterprise, but about 15 years later, Only invited Wyn to one of his events and Wyn did show up with some new fangled apparatus that was going to be the next best thing to make every kid and grownup big and strong and rich as hell.
And once again, somebody (a lot of somebodies) bought in planning to get big and strong and super rich.
I think that one ended a couple of months sooner.
I was with Wyn and Only when Wyn was praising his new business venture with this bendable piece of iron bar (as I recall it) and I was just about to mention our other venture 15 years earlier, but Wyn is such a good guy and such a character that it was impossible for me to broach the subject, so I let it ride.
Wyn is definitely one of those colorful characters that should be included in that book. And I know Only is gonna jump in here real soon.
Wyn knew Steve and I'd like to contact him one of these days to see if he could offer some FACTs on the matter.
