i have a gym that me and 10 of my boys own,, we got a small, shitty old warehouse and only pay 300 a month for rent,, we got nothing but heavy freeweights and basic equipment. one guy is a welder so we made a lot of stuff,, so that was cheap for us, its really cheap and easy to make heavy dumbbells- that look good too,, and rent is easy to pay. we each have a key so its very private,, no cardio,,no fitness balls,, heavy metal being blasted,, weights dropping,, guys screaming. sure as hell better than ballys

What's with the baseless attack?

well for one thing you're a nazi, so a gym that just accept whites as members with the decreasing number of white people in the world would not survive
and then you wont accept homosexuals, lesbians etc which would limit it even further

Straps, belts, chalk, gloves all for FREE to use, and of course, a giant fridge with all the test, gh, winstrol, nubain, etc you can have!

just with posters of Ahnold on the walls, and some of Vida Guerra naked!!!

all girls train for free, but they have to train in bikinis!!!!!

Nowadays is very difficult to train in a non-hardcore gym, bacause people are gayer than ever. Gyms now are changing their courses to the fitness and gay area. But I think that there will always be hardcore gyms, because there will always be people who wnat to train serioulsly.

lol....good post. but it's hard to find a hardcore gym these days, unless somebody tells you about one. there is a local ymca I used to know, it was the most hardcore in the city. we had dumbells up to 180lbs and membership was like $45 every 3 months. The most hilarious about that dungeon was that there was a sign in the weight room right in front of the door that says "rerack your weights, Remember, your mother doesn't work here" I miss that place when I left the city. but , like I said, it's hard to find those dungeon unless some body tells you

hahahaha how come "we" are decreasing? "We" make sure as hell that we "controll" the population in the middle east :D ... and let me assure you... the numbers are going down... those towelheads down there cannot f**k fast enough the way "we" kill them down there.

And were do you get the shit that I'm a Nazi? I might have some strong views on some people on this planet, but seriously dude read up on the term Nazi, I might be a racist but I'm sure as hell no Nazi.

And as far as fags and lesbian ::) I think I have said it a million times to you, I don't give a shit what anybody is doing in his free time (especially how and when they fuck) as long as my gym does not have to "play" with the standart fucked up PC rules of this world (as in an extra fag chaniging room, or mirrors in the urinals so they can spy on other members dick) I couldnt care less if they join up or not... if you mean with fags Derek Anthony, that's a whole different shoe all together... since I don't support male or female prostitution in my gym... YES I have to say Derek Anthony would not be allowed to join up. ;D ;D

what's the difference if it's hardcore or not? what's hardcore anyway? f@@king phlegm globbers on the wall, a non-functioning toilet filled with some fat powerlifter's protein dumps, old ass vintage 1980's weight systems all rusted to hell?  that's the last place i'd like to give my money too---my gym is far from that but they don't stop me from doing deads, squats, grunting--shit like that..they even have dumbbells that go up to 150lbs...does that make it hardcore?  you dudes kill me...

I guess hardcore has to do more with the environment rather than the equipment. I know a bally's in Florida where the weight room is more hardcore than most gold's gym I've seen. the guys that goes there push some serious ass weights and management upgrade lots of equipment there because of those guys and I heard membership went sky high by word of mouth. It's the only bally's so far I've seen with 170lbs dumbells, and they have a small area for the ladies who want to use the free weights also.

What i think would be better is if you opened up a gym that is like most fitness gyms but you had a seperate room for hardcores and that room has different rules. If the guys in the "hardcore" room need to do cardio or something they can use the rest of the gym but they must follow the rules to that room. So you could have the best of both worlds.

I would love to see all these "hardcore gyms" if there were no drugs.  Nothing hardcore about taking shots in the ass, sorry.  It's great if you do, but not really "hardcore".

That's the problem. A hardcore gym implies a lot of steroid users. Eventually, the place will come under police scrutiny. The rewards aren't worth the risks.

YES, I would beleive so. In my hometown in Norway(250.000 ppl) there are at least
2 "hardcore" gyms. But it depends what you define as hardcore. People are expecting
some standards. Decent wardrobe facilities, showers etc. etc.
So basement gym like Dorians Temple Gym would be hard to manage I think, unless
youre Dorian or someone like that.

I think the hardcore training gyms can survive but the law of the land these days is that gyms have to somehow appeal to everyone.  The gym I go to is a local chain here in town but it still has some "hardcore" to it by isolating the power racks, smith machines, dumbbells, and so on off to the side for the bodybuilders and powerlifters.  But with the pure hardcore gyms its hard for a lot of soccer moms, track and fielders, and so on to fit in.  Have to have a balance somehow.  Doesnt mean I dont sneak down to the "hardcore" gym every once in a while to get refocused and train hard.  Different atmosphere altogether.

Absolutely no chance of survival.  With commercial rent spaces costing an arm and a leg, lots of members who come in all the time, beat the snot out of the equipment, and don't pay, or can't pay.

Cool!! The heaviest dumbbells I've ever seen at a Bally Total Fitness center has been 140s. The one where I train now goes up to 105s. But, it's those blasted rubber-coated Ivanko ones.

The environment where I train is great, too. Some local-level bodybuilders train there. The equipment is better; nearly all of the benches and all of the squat racks are bolted to the floor. There's more than enough stuff there to get it done.

Do a test on the demographics, see what other gyms in the area have.load the place with heavy free weights and assortment of Hammer Press equipment, loud heavy music blaring, no aerobics or sissy classes.
Make it 24/7 365 days a year and call it "Hardcore Metal"also an idea i got on the board 50% percent of gym dues if you can bench 500, 25% if yuo can lift 400 pound bench.
But make it very clear no steroids in the gym.Keep tham at home.

There is a "hardcore" gym near to me that my cousin joined and invited me too.  For me the novelty wore off the minute they didn't have a stack of towels at the front desk.  The equipment as someone stated was the 80s, there was nothing new there.  The bathroom was disgusting and would give anyone nightmares.

Suffice it to say I never went back. I work out at one of the largest NYSC in NY (belt pkwy in Brooklyn). New equipment and lots of them. Clean bathroom and lots of cardio bitches in skimpy clothes.  I work out at 6am so usually I have every weight and machine to myself.

Guys, there is nothing wrong with having a TV on every cardio machine. Why should I deprieve myself just to feel hardcore?

In order to be financially viable it helps to have members who spend money on extras such as personal training, protein shakes etc. (It also helps to have members who are so busy in their jobs that they hardly find the time to show up, despite paying the full annual fee...)

The following gyms are examples that are different from each other, but have in common that plenty of hardcore trainers work out there (amateur and professional bodybuilders). They still manage to be reasonably clean and friendly enough to attract normal members who are serious about working out without being bodybuilders (people who use the gym to help them in other sports etc.).

http://www.muscleworksgym.co.uk/
http://www.bodylimitgym.co.uk/
http://www.fitness1.ch/

If you design the gym intelligently (enough space between machines, good lighting etc), keep the place clean but don't waste money or space on unnecessary luxuries you can find the right mix.

In the end, hardcore trainers are looking for good equipment, plenty of weights and enough space to train without having to wait or get people into their way. They are not looking for dirty changing rooms, bad heating or unfriendly staff... (hardcore trainers might be more tolerant than others, but all else being equal everybody prefers not to have to chase away rats while training...)

Let's assume that you want to open a gym. You take a look around and feel that in the city (large city) you life there are already enough "wellness centers" "fitness temples" and so forth.

Do you think a "hardcore" gym mainly for the serious lifters has any chance of survival?
I'm talking about a gym were a sign at the entry informs people to beware of Meatheads with Roidrage? A place were most getbiggers would fit right in a place were 24 would stand out like a sore tooth.
Absolutely not. Not at this day and age. A good gym needs to accomadate everyone from beginners, novice, intermidiate and professional athletes. Bodybuilders are far and few. A gym simply would not survive on them alone. The trick is to have a good gym manager that knows the business, a good juice/supplement bar,  good personal trainers, and has  on or two people working for him that can set proper examples such as putting dumbbells away, taking plates off machines when done, etc. This way when a newbie joins, they can learn properly from the start. Not like a lot of stupidity that you see in some of todays gyms.

Sorry, their a thing of the past.  If they weren't, than the fitness centers wouldn't be on the rise while the old hardcore gym just doesn't make money and they change or close >:(.  It's the place for me, but I'm in the minority.  10 years ago they were all hardcore, today it just doesn't make the bottom line.
6 meals lift heavy and 1/2 hr cardio
