Probs choosing chest exercises
« on: December 29, 2006, 01:49:46 PM »
hey guys, as many of u know i am following a HIT style routine, Mine is based more around compound moves, and i am having probs choosing my 2 chest exercises.

I have done Db bench followed by incline.
But i changed as i was doing that for quite a while with other routines aswell.
I have done incline Db followed by decline Db, but i fear that decline is kinda bothering an old AC joint injury.

I am thinking of either doing flat BB bench followed by proper incline Db....OR....slight incline BB followed by proper incline DB, what do u think??

Shoulders? I usually get pain in my elbow...I think I'm getting a little tendonitis there.  :(

Try high incline bench at 45 degrees and dumbell flat unilateral presses.
just push some weight!

The higher you go the more you stress the upper portion of your pecs but you have to find what works for you. For instance Arnold did his inclines really high but Serge prefered to do them on a 30 degree bench. Try all variations.

but also the higher the incline the more stress on the shoulder, and this fellow has somewhat of a shoulder injury. but if it doesn't hurt ya then ya sure use all variations.

Usually if your shoulder hurts you can't do flat but incline is fine!

I think flat and incline is both fine, i was saying decline was causing discomfort (i think).

I am thinking of doing slight incline Db (to hit all chest),then doing normal incline Db to emphasise upper chest??what do u think??

Good idea. You could also start with a really high incline and after everytime you reach failure you move the angle down 5 degrees or however it allows you to until you reach flat dumbell presses.

I use both but if I where to choose barbells are much better for overall mass.

I need to get my incline barbell press up. I'm much better with dumbells....for everything actually especailly shoulder press. I can incline 110s-120s for a good set of 6-8 on my own but 225 on the barbell, i'll get maybe 5 without a spot  ??? maybe should i use drop sets??

Start with incline bench. Do you need somebody to help you raise the dumbells for you? Make sure to use full range of motion. You could include drop sets on your last set they will help too.

no, i don't use a weight that i can't get up myself. the 130s are pretty tough to do alone and get up so i don't hit em up yet. Maybe its my grip. On flat i use a wider grip then i do on incline. I go farly narrow on incline cuz i like the big stretch you get. Do you go wide on incline alex?

I like to go as wide as I can but I have extra long arms since I am 6'4". Experiment and find out for yourself what works best for you. Use one sort of grip for at least a month and note the progress.
