this was in a flex mag and it said jay drinks a coca cola can before going for a workout??..so why would anyone wanna drink coke before a workout??.they stated that its all sugar and it helps in giving you energy??so how many of you think this is true?

i dont know, but i know this - i got jay cutler on my tv right now doing biceps curls, and i got a cold coke in my fridge that im getting RIGHT NOW

probably takes a shot of slin and gh before he works out...not sure why. usually dont you take insulin during your workout or after?

i read on his website a while ago that he drinks cocacola after his workout....that would make somewhat sense

correct..but gatorade is lighter than coke with less sugar

It said he drinks a can of coke AFTER his workout and that it was OK for him to do cause the simple sugars would help in restoring glycogen and also something along the lines of 'all his hard work in the gym meant he could treat himself to it'.

Drinking a soft drink pre-workout would result in an insulin spike (and shortly after, a drop) which would ruin the workout.

I remember reading about him drinking a coke post-workout from some FLEX mag from about a year or so ago. Are you looking at the latest one? Which issue is it?

A soft drink wouldn't ruin anything. Sucrose is real low on the GI as well. Whey and dextrose or maltodextrin would be much worse. He eats so many times a day there wouldn't be any crashes no matter what he ate.

Sucrose is low GI? I thought it was high, but looks like it's actually medium

I suppose if it's not too high, then it's not such a bad thing to consume. I personally wouldn't do it, since I lift on an empty stomach, but like someone pointed out, Jay eats ridiculous amounts of food a day and 1 can of coke ain't gonna hurt I suppose.
