Leg day... after a year off?
« on: January 18, 2007, 12:18:24 PM »
Ive been through a rough year of injuries that killed my motivation.  I started back last week and have no real problems with my wrist anymore.  Today is my first leg workout.  Last week I did some cardio on the treadmill for a leg workout which got me fairly sore I assume becuase of all my time off.  Today im hitting it with weights.  Can I get some pointers coming back into legs?  I was thinking squats with only the bar for high reps along with extensions, leg raises and some high rep calve raises... I figure this alone will have me walking funny for a few days.  Thanks for any input.  Ive never been real strong in legs.. 245 for 8-10 is the most I was ever doing when I did hit them.  I currently weigh 160lbs and am 5'4"... not sure if the stats will help on any advice I get.

What kinda injuries did you have? I think your plan for today sounds good, will probably feel a little lame to just work with the bar, but there'll be another leg day within a week or so, better be slow and safe...
Injuries or not, coming back strength and cardio is always down, you can't get any real work done no matter how you look at it... one need to slowly get back to where things where.

I'm myself coming back after having my elbow injured... strength is nowhere near where I were before but at least I'm progressing from week to week and I know it won't be long until I can get some REAL sets done in the gym :)

If I were you I'd just do some squats. Squats to a box or bench maybe even better. Focus on form, light weight and don't push yourself too hard. Some leg curls and calf raises following that should be a good leg workout to start with. Go light.

I had an inner carpal sprain (sp?) in my left wrist.  The Specialist I went to said it probably will not heal on its own and even now I still cant do a push up without sharp pain but I managed to do 185 for 8 reps and didnt feel to much pain.  Ive had tendonits in my elbows that finally went away and a knee problem that is the result of a car accident when I was a kid that stared to bother me.  Im kinda surprised how much strength I kept although I put on 10lbs which has to be pure fat.  I stopped lifting all together becuase it hurt to lift anything.. including the plates I needed to load to continue only working legs.  To be honest I just lost all motivation for any of it.  I used to be 148lbs 7% b/f and maxing 300lb for 1 rep on flat bench. I'm so far from this now its not even funny.  I dont even know if I should be trying to put some muscle back on before cutting or if I should start cutting now.... I was 125lbs out of College when I started lifting and I've always struggled to gain weight so this is very different for me.
