having trouble with arms
« on: January 21, 2007, 09:37:29 PM »
hi.  I started body building about 5 months ago.
so far its going good and I am seeing results, but my bies and tries seem to be lacking.
its not that I don’t work them, but I don’t seem to be able to hit them right, especially my bies.
I have tried an EZbar, regular bar, and dumbbells.  Maybe it’s my form?
im keeping my back strait, but i cant seem to get a pump in my bies, particularly my left, but also not very good in my right.
Any suggestions would be good.
Thanks,
Joe

If really heavy doesn't work, try large number of lighter reps.  You'll probably feel a burn and this should help develop the mind-muscle connection making it easier to target the biceps and triceps later.
It hasn't helped...

Which exercises do you do? There's a number of different ones you can do if not regular curls work, like preacher curls, concentration curls, cable curls etc.

I went back east for a family funeral for over a week and didn't have access to a gym.  The heaviest dumbell I could find was a 40lb dumbell at WalMart, so I purchased it.  Every other day I did only concentration curls, high volume (reps and sets), perfect form, to exhaustion, long rest intervals.

In sum, it seems like the "trick" to bi's may be to switch up approaches on them often because they are an amazingly adpatable muscle.

yup just mix it up and try different things, biceps is a pretty small muscle, some claim they dont even need direct work... but it's a fun muscle to train so just keep trying  :)

me personally i have no problem 'feeling' the bicep or getting pump with it... i get it even when doing lat pulldowns (which might not be a bad bicep exercise if you do it with close grip palm of hand facing you)
right now i super set biceps and triceps on their own day

I tried some of the Max-OT stuff today.  it was my leg and chest day, but i tried really heavy for 6 reps.
definatly a diferent feel. and like you said its always good to change it up.
i also did my fore arms.  before i was doing 15reps with 25lbs for 5 sets.
today i did 6 reps with 40lbs for 4 sets and i was done.  definatly a good pump, and it feels more like a get stronger and bigger pump.
same with the flys and bench press.
ill try the same sort of thing for my arms and shoulders tomorow

thanks for the link to the Max-OT
