Cardio question for experienced bodybuilders
« on: January 30, 2007, 08:42:25 PM »
Goal: trying to diet down from 12% bodyfat to around 7%

I do my weight training after work around 630 pm. I know it would probably be better to do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach and train with weights later but I hate and i mean hate getting up earlier than i have to. I can easily do my 1 hour workout routine and 45 minutes low intensity cardio after my workout. I take glutamine and bcaa during workout and post workout.

My question is does it really make that "huge" of a difference on losing fat when doing morning cardio on empty stomach versus after workout?

personally I dont think it makes too much of a difference.  I've tried both and have had better results doing it before dinner after work.  This way I dont feel rushed for time or try to squeeze it in while maximising sleeping time.
It hasn't helped...

i always say to do it when you know you can give it 110%.  i prefer cardio before i eat and in the morning.  but if you know you won't give it your all if you had to get up earlier than you like, then don't do it then because if your heart isnt in it, then your wasting your time.

When I do cardio I like to do it first thing in the morning...... I find it definitely works best.... have you considered high intensity interval training for cardio it woks very well.

i have tried high intesity cardio but i didnt do it long enough and with a consistant diet to see if it was better. To really know if something like that is better than low intensity you have to eat the exact same food consupmtion and do it for like 4 weeks straight to have a controlled setting to see the difference.

one thing i know is that none of the pro or high amateur bodybuilders do high intensity. they all do low intensity for longer periods.

As someone said just do it whenever you're comfortable and will give max. effort. Doing it in the morning when half-awake wouldn't cut if for me either. Consistency and effort are more important than timing.

HIIT is good, as mentioned it would have to be tried for a month or so and keep the diet the same then compare. Some find it more effective, on the other hand others find that it's tough on the central nervous system because of the intensity, potentially higher chance of burnout. Just as when to do cardio, the choice of HIIT or longer less intense cardio is more about personal preference than differences in effectiveness.

Do it in the morning and do it in the evening, then you can't lose ;), even if one of the workouts is 1/2 assed.
