TA,

Becoming an IFBB Judge is a Members Only position. First you must find a sponsor -- that is, a current judge or powerful promoter who will "vouch" for you. Then you have to make the obligatory honorarium donation to King James Manion, so he knows you're serious. Then you are told to pay your expenses to a small NPC show and act as a 'test judge'. Your test judging is graded by the promoter and if you fail to adjudge the promoter's competitor pals 1st in all categories, you fail. If you correctly place the promoter's pals 1st regardless of their appearance, then you are given the opportunity to pay your expenses and act as a real judge in a small local show. As long as you ignore independent thinking and reward the promoter's pals, you will advance through the years up to the national level, whereupon all of your years of blind compliance to the rules will finally result in you getting paid $100 to judge the Nationals. Congratulations, you're almost there. Now, all you have to do is wait for one of the IFBB judges to die and hope that all your years of dishonesty, lack of integrity, and asskissing will finally get you your shot at judging the New YorK Pro. But be careful what you wish for. Steve and Bev will sit on each side of you, correcting your scoresheet throughout the pre-judging, and eliminating any chance that their handpicked selections will be subverted. Better yet, don't even bother looking up at the competitors and just copy Steve's scoresheet. That should ingratiate you sufficiently to earn you a spot on the 2015 Olympia Judging Panel, where you can finally impose your will and award Stan McQuay 1st place. Unfortunately, with the high and low being dropped, your impact on the contest is negligible and to no one's surprise, Cutler wins his 10th straight Olympia. After the contest, you are told your services as a judge will no longer be needed ever again. Thanks for playing.

You'll have to follow the Pro league code of ethic

We, the Pro League Judges, realizing that our actions and decisions as judges
reflect on the good name of the sport of bodybuilding, fitness and figure, and
realizing the responsibility thereby placed upon us, pledge ourselves:
1. To apply honestly, impartially, and objectively all of the rules governing
competitions.
2. To safeguard the interests of all competitors on equal terms.
3. To cooperate in providing the best possible conditions for the benefit of the
Athletes, Judges and Officials.
4. To respect the feelings and competitive drive of the Athletes, and to make
reasonable allowances for their heightened emotions in the heat of
competition.
5. To respect the Constitution and Pro Rules and the requirements of an
effective administration and to cooperate willingly and promptly with the
officially elected or appointed Officials in the carrying out of their duties
and responsibilities.
6. To cooperate with the Promoters of the competitions by rendering decisions
clearly and promptly, and in accordance with the requirements of the
competition or judging procedures.
7. To refrain from attempting to influence the decisions of other Judges or
Officials, and to respect their individual opinions and decisions.
8. To assist the Pro League in the promotion of bodybuilding, fitness and
figure by acting as a goodwill ambassador of the sport, promoting the sport
in a positive manner, and protecting the good image and integrity of the
sport and the Pro League.
9. To work for the Pro League, not against it, in promoting its values, morals
and ethics.
10. To exercise our right of protest in a courteous, respectful manner, following
the proper chain of command.
11. To refrain from malicious gossip and rumour-mongering.
12. To refrain from personal attacks against any other Member of the Pro
League, or against the Pro League itself.
13. To honour the special trust conferred upon us by our selection as Judges,
and to adhere to the standards of personal conduct expected of us.
14. To cooperate with the Athletes, Judges and Officials in the development of
high standards, both moral and physical, for the sport of bodybuilding,
fitness and figure and in the progressive furtherance of the objects of the
Pro League.
15. To oppose the use of banned substances and methods.
16. To refrain from any conduct that may be considered prejudicial.
17. To conduct ourselves at all times in a manner that reflects positively upon
the image of the sport of bodybuilding, fitness and figure, and the Pro
League.

Well, if I were to follow the IFBB RULES laid out before me, Sadly I would have to pick someone in the audience I guess since all the competitors grossly did not follow the rules.

I am serious about this judging thing.

"Petition'?

A petition is a waste of time and meaningless, who you going to give your petition to? Jim? Raphael? LOL.....

If you (or anyone) really wanted to become an IFBB judge, it's a fairly simple procedure...you start by judging local NPC shows as a test judge, work up to a judge, start judging regional, then National, then IFBB...not much different than what the competitors do.

It's a labor of love, not much money involved...

Instead of getting in good with the powers-that-be and paying your dues, here's a shortcut.

Step 1: Buy yourself a blue blazer.

Step 2: Show up at a pro show and walk up to the judging area as if you belong there.

Step 3: Act like you're speaking a foreign language. Someone will assume you're one of the European judges and find you a seat.

You're in.

How can one become an IFBB judge?  What is the process?

I would like to become one and is this possible?   I will help Bodybuilding.

You need to first know show promoters. Then, you need to have contributed to the sport somehow. Then, you'll get to judge your first local amateur contest. After a few local shows, you might eventually judge a regional show. After a few dozen regional shows, and if the other more senior judges believe that you have consistentrly itnerpreted the judging protocol correctly, you might get a mention to the NPC.

This will be your ticket to start judging state amateur championships. Afetr you have judged a few dozen one at this level, you might get a promotion to judge the NPC Nationals. If Ben Weider believes that you have enough experience, you might become an I.F.B.B judge. Don't get your hopes high, though, as few make it to this level.

As for judging top pro shows, like the Arnold and especially the Olympia, it is very hard to get there. You'll need ten years at the amateur level and another ten at the pro to even be considered as an Olympia judge. The "less" experienced Olympia judges have 20 years of judging experience; Rockell, the head judge, has 35 and has judged over 600 amateur and pro shows! :o Remember that the Olympia judges make the single most important decision in bodybuilding: who becomes the standard-bearer. ;)

Does the IFBB have a procedure?  Who can I contact to find out if you don`t know the EXACT regulations?

TA, Chick explained it pretty well but let me make it even easier for ya.

This is based on experience and not on any written rules or guidelines published by the NPC or the IFBB.

First of all you got to find out who your regional NPC rep is. If you don't know who that is, maybe Chick can let you know and even provide a contact phone number.

Then call the regional NPC rep and let him know that you are interested in "Test Judging" at one of the NPC contests in your area.

He will most likely ask you for your "qualifications" such as :

Do you compete or have you competed in the past?
Do you attend the contests on a frequent basis?
Why do you want to judge?
Why do you think you are "worthy" of test judging?
Etc., etc.

Most likely if you have never been associated with the "sport" in some capacity, he will ask you to get involved and come back next year.

There are a lot of people who want to judge these contests in an official capacity but know absolutely nothing about bodybuilding. I have run into many such individuals over the course of many years.

And if it is your intention to purely be a pain in the ass, you will most likely be denied the opportunity to sit in as a Test Judge.

But if you are serious and genuinely interested you'll most likely find yourself seated with a few other Test Judges directly behind the official judging table with pencil and paper in your hand; ready, willing and able to proceed to prove yourself.

You will be given a short explanation of how to proceed with an official score sheet and then left on your own to rank the contestants as you see fit.

Once the prejudging is complete, your score sheets will be collected and graded via a rather complicated but intelligent gradeing system.

This is the point where most test judges throw up ther hands and are never seen again, but if you continue to pass over a three-contest time frame (that varies) and continue to be genuinely interested and act in a professional manner; your name will be added to the local NPC list of qualified judges and you will be considered to participate as an official judge according to the needs of the local promoter and the local NPC rep.

If you prove to be a worthwhile NPC judging official and want to become an IFBB judge, you wil go through somewhat the same procedures within the IFBB.

It doth appear to me that you want to make "changes" that are beyond the capabilities of any individual on any judging panel. The changes you may be wanting to make appear to be changes that can only be made at and by the National NPC Office.

I recommend that you change your mind about becoming an NPC/IFBB Judge and run for the office of NPC President instead.  That is where the real changes are made.

Good luck, TA.

better to become an AKC dog show judge, The Westminster is soon, judges stay at the Waldorf Astoria, the compensation is excellent and they get all sorts of bribes from trainers, breeders and promoters.  oh, and at christmas...all the gifts are from Hermes, Gucci and Vuitton.  And for fun guest judge the best in show for the Bovine contest at the county fair.

ps.  added bonus, you get to know all the veterinary medical doctors for all the goodies.
