Victor on New MD Cover
« on: February 05, 2007, 01:40:19 PM »
This giant 500-page issue happens to be our annual “Arnold issue” in which we dedicate tons of pages to the greatest show on earth, the Arnold Classic.  Why is the Arnold Classic the greatest show on earth?  Because it's the greatest for the fans.  The Olympia is the most prestigious for our pro bodybuilders, but the Arnold has an expo three times larger than the Olympia with 39 different sports competing - and the 130,000 fans who come to Columbus are paying witness to an event nearly double the size of the Olympics.  That's why it's the greatest show on earth.  The fans' perspective is the most important, and this one is the best for the fans.  Remember, the fans love Arnold!

It's also a giant payday for the pro bodybuilders.  Not to mention prestigious in its own right, going all the way back to 1989 when Rich Gaspari won the inaugural event.  Every year, the competition has gotten tougher, and this year is perhaps the deepest lineup in history.

In this issue, four-time Arnold Classic champion Flex Wheeler gives his preview and predictions for the top seven in this 19th running of the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic.  Flex puts Dexter Jackson, Victor Martinez, Gustavo Badell, Toney Freeman, Markus Ruhl, Branch Warren, and Phil Heath in no particular order, however with six of the top seven guys members of Team MD, chances are pretty damn good that one of our guys will once again be driving home from Columbus in his new truck, wearing that enormous Audemars Piguet watch and clutching a check for $105,000.

We are also, for the first time, the official national sponsor of the ASC.  I look forward to working with Arnold and Jim Lorimer in the future - helping them and doing more to help make the show become even bigger and better.

 Nice cover!

I already picked it up at 7-11.

I was shocked to see only 1 picture of Collette Nelson on 'Pg-69' versus the usual 18 pictures of her complete with her chine lowered to her collar bone and looking UP towards the camera with the coy smile.

Hope this helps.

I think MD being a sponsor of the ASC is a smart move by them.  After Flex shut them out of the O press related activities, they needed to do something business-wise that would move them forward.

It's like picking the better of two evils: MD > Flex
Motherboy (the band).

nah, maybe a little, but they did have him lean head back so arms look bigger, and shoulders/head look smaller.

This issue is truly a collectors edition.

Mint copies will fetch thousands of dollars on eBay in the next few years.  ::)

Meanwhile, alexxx will buy three copies the second he sees the word "Arnold" on the cover.  ;D

i think the covers are cool sometimes, like last months, for example with markus ruhl on the cover, but its kind of shitty to advertise 500 pages when at least 75% of them are adds that are usefull only for comic value only.

In 2006 MD had the best year in the history of the company.  We plan on exceeding that in 2007.  MD doesn’t discount its ad rates.  At 500 pages, at least 50% are ads.  That means you’re getting approximately 250 pages of serious content.  That’s more editorial by far, like 100 pages more, than the competition.  The other 250 pages of ads prove the success and vitality of the magazine.  It proves the advertisers know that MD pulls for them better than any other bodybuilding magazine out there.  Everyone wants to advertise in MD!  Why should we turn down their ads when we have the best cutting-edge editorial to match?  MD is only going to keep getting bigger and better – so keep working out.

i just looked at the latest issue earlier today and it was a little better than usual but had the same old shit in there for the most part, the Branch Warren/Gustavo Baddell leg article was allright, nothing great though.

What would your opinion be of the advertisments with MCDONALDS or Burger King in it that provided coupons for free food and other deals? Truly your bodybuilding goals would be met, and the magazine would in fact, pay for itself.

I think if they gave me 5-10 pages alone and allowed guest writers, we would see a new type of magazine.
