To All:  Michael and I don't post my pictures because we think I am simply awesome or better than anyone else.  We do it because we are proud of what I have accomplished.  If you feel it is nothing...so be it.  It doesn't take anything away from how we feel.  I am also proud of each and every other competitor that takes the stage.  It takes a lot of work and dedication.  You might claim that you don't do it because you "don't want to" or "don't feel you have to", but what it comes down to is that if you haven't done it, you don't know jack shit about it.  Plain and simple.  Get over it, and move on.  ::)

I think that warrants posting 3500 pictures!!!!! She wouldn't have done shit in the Masters division either. Congratulations on mediocrity!!!!!

I agree.

I can appreciate what Mike and Laura are doing.  I think it's great.  But too much attention being sought after for a very minimal outcome.  Hey if you guys are doing fine awesome, if it's not taking food out of your children's mouths fair enough.  That girl though in the pic above puts it all into perspective though.

No doubt in the 40+ category she would have placed at least 4th and most likely 3rd.

Of course, that's using the photos I've seen for comparison.

Laura, from the threads I see, the majority of people are giving you props. There a few that make numerous posts and bash you, but overall, even on getbig, the majority of comments seem to be positive.
In case you haven’t noticed, the people who really get attacked hard for posting pictures are the one's who react negatively to the comments. If you just laugh at yourself, people won't find it fun to pick on you anymore. This has been proven over and over in the pictures section.
My point is, quit looking at the bad and pay attention to the good. There is always going to be a lot of shit talked, afterall, this is getbig.

Let me bottom-line this:

There is so much out of your control in bodybuilding/fitness, that the placing in a show is irrelevant.  You may come in phenomenal shape, but if someone with superior genetics shows up that day, you're going to place lower.  Or, you may have a judging panel that goes for "apples" instead of "oranges".  If you're an "orange" you're SOL that day.

So, as far as I'm concerned, the only thing that matters is how you do against yourself.  In that regard, I have to give kudos to both Mike/Laura.  Both have managed to reach levels of development well beyond what they started with.  No doubt it took a lot of effort and dedication.

That said...

It seems to me, that both Mike & Laura desperately long to attain the types of physiques that grace the pages of bodybuilding/fitness magazines.  They very much aspire to have the types of bodies that command respect and admiration from others.  I say this because of the lengths to which they have resorted to attain these physiques (drugs, plastic surgery, etc.) and how much value they place on the opinions of others.  Hell, Mike even confessed to be willing to trade years of his life for a few added pounds of muscle!  In my opinion, in spite of all their effort, neither has reached this elusive dream.

Mindspin,

You're like a mystical Tibetan-warrior monk with Confucius-like advice and Achille's physique. Looking at your contest photos, it's clear that if you couldn't become a pro with those genetics, then neither can the rest of us. But we can still die trying, right?

True, true.  And there always is room for improvement.

I also will add that although I know I will never ever have what you called "type of physique that grace the pages of bodybuilding/fitness magazines", I am very pleased with where I am.   ;)

showing up in the best shape ever and being outmatched by someone genetically superior only matters if you're fighting for 1st place.  when you place 5th out of 5...well, this is not the show for you.  you weren't even close to being competitive.

can we see some score cards?

mindspin realized at an early enough time that trading years for muscle mass is retarded; he concentrated on being a good man and father (while he could still produce sperm).

To consider one a "man", in my opinion, he'd have form a family and do everything in his power to make that family as happy as possible and to leave a legacy behind.  I think it's reasonable for any of us to want others to say (on our death bed) "he was a real man, look at what he did with his life" and then go on to list achievements.

Mike, what will people list as your accomplishments as a man during your lifetime?  "Oh, here's Mike, he was a great man.  He posted 14,000 photos of himself on the internet.  He never had any kids, but he did have 17 inch quads at a show he did in 2006 where he placed second to last.  His live in girlfriend Laura (he was way too much man to marry her) did the same; she placed 5th out of 5 though.  Oh, the thousands of dollars they spent on thongs and posing bikinis and fake tan were a great investment.  Why would anyone be crazy and donate that money to a worthy cause, when Mr. Protan needs to make a living too!!"

Stop being so vain you two (Mike and Laura).  Seriously, I know I bash you guys.  Most of the time there's no reason behind other than to watch you meltdown.  But running around posting photos of yourselves looking like crap and telling others you're gonna ram your fists down their windpipes if they criticize you reeks of mental instability.  Find something better to do with your life; bodybuilding's not a good option for you.

WELL i hope people would say i was a great school teacher who influenced helped out many young kids
There are people i know who have struggled for 10 years or more trying to win a local show (or trying to win a National show for that matter)
for our first show we both did great! (talk to me 10 years from now if i have failed to win!)
Bodybuilding for us is about friendships/people we meet
going to shows meeting new and old friends................. ...
cheering friends on and suppporting them/going to there shows
having them support us/comming to our shows
for me it's also a job (personal trainer)
it's a lifestyle (one that we love!)
if you can't understand that.................... .your on the wrong message board
