Besides, the link i gave you that had stats about american knowledge of geography, is a survey that consists of several americans giving their answers to certain geographical questions. I bet 100 bucks anytime, that the similar survey amongst people in our country would give better statistics. At least everyone living here can locate their own country from world map, unlike americans are able to.

I guess I have a different take on the impending doom I currently compete against the Chinese in the sale of an industrial sensor. They can undercut my price by 50%. So, I developed a new product that replaces the old. I engineered that 50% out of it.  Plus, the new one works better.

I received an order from a Chinese distributor for 10,000 of these a month. I guess I am winning this one.

BTW, these are not monolithic cultures having an us vs them mentality. I signed a distribution agreement with an Austrian firm to sell their product worldwide. Even in Austria. I asked the president of the Austrian firm why he didn't go with a European distributor. He said "you guys are better".

So I welcome the entire world getting better, smarter, faster, what ever. We will all compete to see who is the best. And I will continue to forge alliances with China, India, Russia, wherever. I get to know people  worldwide who are good at what they do,and I love to work with them. I don't care where they are from. They all bring great things to the table.

And i don't need tariff protections. The Chinese have them, and my Chinese customers tell me how they get around them. Lets open the market across the globe.

I'm not ready to retire anytime soon!

If the statistics say that 11% of 18-24 -years-old americans dont know where US is, i would say that it means that their geography knowledge is worse than average europeans. Of course there are americans that have great knowledge in geography, and also europeans who's knowledge sucks, but we're talking about survey here showing percentages of population. What part you didn't understand about that?!?

My thinking is more trend based futures.  their population is growing, the web knowledge base is growing.  Once your idea is reversed engineered and second-generationed to a local firm, you have to come up with a better idea to stay in business.  The ability to copy, duplicate faster/cheaper means you cannot create this SUSTAINABLE competitive advantage.   You can outwit them once.  But you have to KEEP doing it.  And when they're ganging up 10 to 1 for the same price, they will overcome eventually, despite being inferior 1 on 1.

I am not backing down from stating that probably several 18-24 yr-olds in America don't know alot about world geography...But like most statistics it all depends on where they were taken...Even when 'they' say quotes like "Statistics prove that so and so is this....Based on a survey" It is very very easy to come up with your own statistics based on numbers presented, but you cannot consider that a true figure unless a majority of 18-24 yr-olds were actually required to take the survey and not just offered to take it.....

Like I said, I speak for myself.  I was born in this country, and I'm sorry to say I wouldn't know of anyone who fits this percentage in your survey.  Nor am I 18-24, so I cannot speak intelligently about the map knowledge of that demographic.  I would say it has more to do with the generation than of the country itself.

Having lived in Europe and North America, I can tell things are not as black and white as many people here assume. Now kids, lemme tell you how it is:

- yes, there's trash in europe, but U.S is the white trash capital of the world
- if you want class and style, certain parts of Europe win hands down. Other than couple of cities,U.S. it's mostly a suburb or trashy cities
- there are lots of brilliant people in U.S., something people outside U.S. don't seem to realize. Having said that, in ignorance department, stupid americans are legendary, and not for no reason
- U.S. is a great place to make money. Extreme capitalism makes it possible, but brings another problems such as homelessness. It's a very selfish society in that sense, but effective when it comes to making money
- All in all, U.S. is a fascinating country with tons to offer. It always seems that their politicians don't seem to reflect the values of the citizens, skewing the perception of Americans outside U.S.

Anyone failing to recognize the diversity of these two is really doing themselves injustice.

We also give our part of donations and help. Of course the donations are smaller, but in relation to the size of our country, they're as valuable.

The only reason 'america' is a free conutry is because of Europes infighting over the last couple of centuries. Personally i feel Britain should have teamed up with Hitler and conquored the globe. There was actually huge support for Hitler in Britain, and many politicians were sypathetic to his goals. Unfortunately we were close allies with poland and had no choice but to declare war on Germany.
