uprigh row ?
« on: March 07, 2007, 03:34:22 PM »
hey  guys
I was wondering if I could switch out upright rows for seated DB press??  I've always done upright rows with all different kinds of grips. but I've never really looked forward to do them. I stuck with them b/c its the second best shoulder builder. I wanted to switch for anoth mass builder b/c compound is where its at.

this is my old/current  shoulder routin e
seated bb military press 3 working  2 werm ups
upright rows  1 werm up 3 working
side laterals 3 working
bent DB laterals 3 working

 thanks guys

Try arnold presses and other variation of upright rows using cables or dumbells.

for me, upright rows hit my traps much more than my delts.

I think that seated barbell press and seated dumbell presses are the 2 best mass builders for deltoids.

I would say change your grip to a little closer than shoulder width and bring the bar up to your eyes for upright rows.  thats what Burtil Fox suggested and he had GREAT Delts, and traps.

I have never done upright rows for shoulders.  Only for the traps.  I've tried a workout where I did 20 sets of upright rows and nothing else to see which muscles would be sore, just to see what I was actually hitting.  Traps and upper back were sore, nothing else.  The distance your hands are apart does supposedly make a difference however.

Never tried dumbells.  I like doing them with cables though.  EZ bard doesn't do it for me.

Iv been using an ez bar for upright rows. close grip i feel hits more traps, wer as shoulder width (or wider) seems to hit delts more.

I did these after sum benching the other day and was still feeling delts 5 days later.

It's a football players specialty and they have no problems in delt mass as far as I can see.   To be honest, I just think it's safer.  That wider grip feels much more comfortable and there's a lot less torque on the shoulder.

So u think there less torque doing high pulls than there is doing ex upright rows, might try it.

+ wen doing high pulls, u lift the bar to forehead height dont u (like in ur vid)??

U feel it in shoulders alot then. i might try it once im stalled on upright rows?!
