Shawn vs. Dexter? Hard to say. I hate to say it but almost apples and oranges here; Shawn seems to have deeper separation, whereas Dexter tends to have more "slice" to his physique...Shawn probably epitomizes the best blend of old school/new school, whereas Dexter is the best of "the new breed" by a mile, IMO.

Shawn Ray from the back, though? Takes it hands down.

I don't know what else there is to say.

Pretty much...but like gh15's saying, respect must be given to the fact that Dexter stands out so far from the rest of the competition these days, when Shawn never had that ability back in his prime. Plus, as he also said, Dexter may still get a hair better, which could make all the difference in how the two are perceived in the grandest scheme of things, after it's all been said and done.

Dex: better conditioning, but weaker calves and back
Shawn Ray: more complete

What do you think Dex can improve on? (besides his calves) He has basically looked the same the last 4-5 years...which is great...but I don't see him making any big improvements. Because of this, I don't see him ever being a legitimate thread to Ronnie/Jay unless they are way off

Ray also lacked density, hardness, dryness and shoulder width.

Dexter owns Ray on density, sharpness, dryness, cuts, striations, muscle refinement, etc. Ray like a few other BBs never had those qualities but might have had a better structure and balance.

Yes Ronnie Rockel rocks, but Dexter's got a much edgier appeal. He's somehow got more star power. His whole look is more sharply defined and unique to his own character. When you look across bodybuilding, there are certain characters that become more like caricatures...so that if you were writing a movie you'd only cast certain people for a select group of clearly defined archaetypes. It's the sports' personalities that have created their own stereotypical image for themselves that are the stars. Lee Priest comes to mind. Kevin Levrone. Chris Cormier. Shawn Ray. Flex Wheeler. The people most likely to be reproduced into bobbleheads, actually. You see their bobblehead and you know it's them. Love them or hate them, up or down...they will always be popular in the sport because they are entirely self-contained personalities. They're not derivitives of anyone but themselves. I think it's very interesting.

I find it interesting that neither gh15 nor Blockhead have refuted my question if gh15 is Pavol. They seem to be avoiding it.

Should gh15 be Pavol, thats quite something, dude was/is great.

Im not gh15 but will put my 2cents in...The guy has great conditioning...He has however the smallest back in bodybuilding...I couldn't believe what his back looked like at the worlds last year...

He's not Pavol or DJ or Nasser. I don't think you guys can guess who it is, cause he's deliberately given us some false, misleading clues.
