MSN sports is reporting Pacman Jones has been suspended without pay for 1 year.

Goodell suspends Pacman, Henry for arrests

Adam "Pacman" Jones of Tennessee was suspended Tuesday for the 2007 NFL season and Chris Henry of Cincinnati received an eight-game suspension -- both for numerous violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

The two players are suspended without pay, the NFL announced.

After they serve their suspensions, each player must apply for reinstatement.

"We must protect the integrity of the NFL," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "The highest standards of conduct must be met by everyone in the NFL because it is a privilege to represent the NFL, not a right. These players, and all members of our league, have to make the right choices and decisions in their conduct on a consistent basis."

In a letter to each player, Goodell wrote: "Your conduct has brought embarrassment and ridicule upon yourself, your club, and the NFL, and has damaged the reputation of players throughout the league. You have put in jeopardy an otherwise promising NFL career, and have risked both your own safety and the safety of others through your off-field actions. In each of these respects, you have engaged in conduct detrimental to the NFL and failed to live up to the standards expected of NFL players. Taken as a whole, this conduct warrants significant sanction."

Jones' off-field conduct has included 10 incidents where he was interviewed by police. The most recent took place in Las Vegas during the NBA All-Star weekend. Las Vegas police have recommended felony and misdemeanor charges against Jones after a fight and shooting at a strip club that paralyzed one man.

Henry was arrested four times in a 14-month span, resulting in two benchings by coach Marvin Lewis and a two-game league suspension. He was one of nine Bengals arrested in nine months.

Jones' suspension carries the following conditions:

• He must have no more run-in with law enforcement.

• He must comply with all required counseling, education, and treatment assigned by the NFL or the judicial system.

• He must obey the restrictions that have been agreed to by he and the Titans.

• He may not be at the Titans' facility through May 31 and may not participate in any practices or workouts during his suspension. Starting June 1, he must visit the team facility once per week to meet with the team's player development director. Also, beginning June 1, he is permitted to spend one day a week at the team facility for conditioning, film study, and other activities.

• In conjunction with the Titans, Jones must develop a structured program of community service or other activity. This program must be submitted to the NFL for approval.

Henry will be reinstated after the Bengals' eighth regular-season game if he meets the following conditions:

• He must have no more run-in with law enforcement.

• He must comply with all required counseling, education, and treatment assigned by the NFL or the judicial system.

• He is allowed to be at the Bengals' facilities during the rest of the offseason and he must meet weekly with the team's player development director.

• If he fully complies with all conditions, he may participate in the training camp and Bengals preseason games.

• During the 2007 season, he must meet weekly with the team's player development director, but he may not attend or participate in practice.

• He must fully comply with all conditions imposed on him by any court, including requirements of community service.

If Jones and Henry do not fully comply with these conditions, they could be permanently banished from the NFL.

"I must emphasize to you that this is your last opportunity to salvage your NFL career," Goodell wrote to the players. "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you in that effort."

This of course will definitely change how teams will view a player when they are to be drafted. Where-in before they thought that just because they have tremendous on field talents, their off field behaviors will truly dictate whether or not a team wants to take a chance on them. I'm not saying they shouldn't be drafted, but most with a history of off field problems, they probably won't be 1st or 2nd round picks anymore, thereby affecting what they could have made if they were a 1st rounder.

Chris Henry is a real douchebag. He should have gotten suspended for a year also with his 5 arrests in 6 months.

i agree with everyone here...its about damn time a pro league starts doing this. lets hope this continues and other leagues(nba) start as well.

old school makes a good point.... i think it will change how teams draft now. this doesnt only hurt the player but the team as well. now the titans have to play a full year without him. teams will be more cautious drafting these shit bags.

and if he is convicted of any of these crimes he should then be banned from the league

It's called a precedent and Pacman's thug ass should end up in jail but it won't. If were lucky he'll go slanging dope and get killed. One less idiot black "role model" for other blacks. I'm glad he gets zero money and has to aply for reinstatement. Pacman knows about the rules of everyday society and laws in the world and he broke them, repeatedly.

I agree with the suspension and it's about time that the "thugs" get disciplined. They wouldn't be thugs if they had the discipline when they were growing up.
Pardoning the ongoing behavior with a fine and penalty is a slap in the face of the players who are model citizens. That's part of the reason our crime rates overall as a nation are getting more horrid.
Where talking back to your parents and elders with disrepectful answers was a no no for me growing up, MTV and other New Generation programs make a "reality show" out of it and have these kids watch them. And sometimes we wonder why kids act like idiots?

That is the pretty stupid..How do you levy a penality with rules that every agrees on...Im not saying nothing should be done, but i am saying a penality with rules to break is bull crap. For example... Take the Roy williams rule...He used to use the horse collar tackle...Well if he did that a few times and broke some ankles(T.O.) and they all of the sudden said man u broke one too many ankles so we are gonna give you a penality...Dude thats crap...But what did they do...They saw it was a problem and then said "ok this needs to change...no more horse collar tackles or you get a personal foul penality" NOW any horse collar tackle after that will be penalized...But to punish with out agreed upon rules is crap.....dont let Preconceptions cloud judgement.

I've already heard numerous radio shows where people are making this a racial issue, and it makes me laugh my ass off. The NFL is a registered trademark, pacman jones is giving it a bad name, which could be construed as copyright infringement (crazy but true, learned about this kinda shit in entertainment law class). The NFL has a right to suspend him, regardless of previous rules. he is not in command, he is just another athlete who gets paid by the NFL. To quote the commisioner:

who determines exactly constitutes as "giving the nfl a bad name" what if a player's wife says he beat her and he has to go to court but he is found innocent... does that equal "bad for the nfl label"

Well, i am assuming the NFL has quite a team of lawyers and analysts for this type of situation, as does the NFL players union, and notice that the players union hasn't made a fucking PEEP yet because they know pacman is a ghetto thug and needs to be punished.

True, Pacman is a talented guy who is throwing is life down the tubes and he thinks that money can buy his way out of anything. The NFL has a policy for every Rookie that comes into the league that is mandatory about the leagues rules and policy's. I know when Brian Griese got a DUI he had to go the classes that the NFL provides and any other player that gets into trouble. Gene Upshaw should want to see punishments like this and let other players know that this or anything like this is unacceptable. I know that the NFL offers classes for players that want or need help for anything and with Adam "Pacman" Jones he has been arrested 4 other times and with the situation in Vegas, the man had his chances.
