Is BB worth it?
« on: April 12, 2007, 09:21:02 PM »
Its lookin like the ave age of a pro BB is about 50 years old.  Is it worth it?  for those who make it further (i.e. arnold, the blonde bommer, they have heart conditions and bypass surgeries etc...)

I for one says no way.  Maybe these guys can be like Lee and do one cycle a year and hopefully make it to 60.  this is pretty scary.  I would love to be 280, but not if its gonna cut 20-30 years off my life.
you are gay.

"wont happen to me"

"those guys had problems because they didnt take care of themselves, or have checkups like i do"

then after the fact they say
"my heart condition was unrelated"

"my family has had kidney problems, it was going to happen anyways, just genetics"

Depends on how screwed up you are psychologically, if you are asking this question then I think you know the answer, and you should enjoy bodybuilding and enjoy lifting weights, but not get caught up in the other lifestlye, bodybuilding can be healthy.

The same could be said of various other sports and the price paid to be at the top. Rather misleading to assume that those with more moderate/balanced goals would be in the same category.

If goals are more moderate there'll likely be mainly benefits in terms of health and appearance.

All the people i know that take bodybuilding seriously - ie. take quite alot of gear and compete - are also into X, coke etc. This is probabkly partly because they cant drink much as it will f ck up their physique, so they look for their kicks elsewhere. This obviously cant help matters

this comes back to everything in moderation. two or 3 cycles in a life time ain't gonna kill ya but the "top pro's" have probably done what 20-30 of em. thats like saying its ok to sit back and have an occasional cold one and drink a case of beer to yourself.  if you smoke 3 packs a day you'll get lung cancer but if occasionally you go to the bar and puff a stogie you'll be fine.

Well for legendary Lou Ferrigno,  bb has been the sure bet!!

everything he has he owns to BB,

he retired at age 24 after being top 3 in mr.O ,winning Universe twice-

did hulk tv series, traveled the world as a young dude, did the world strongest man comp in national tv too..
few movies (low budjet) but high pay checks in the 80's just because bb.

then got a HUGE amount of $$$ from Weider and came back in his 40's to compete mr.O and masters for 3 more years...

Today the true king of bb is pushing 60, gets Hollywood recognition, red carpet here and there is a world wide celeb,
many people around the globe still thinks he did better than Arnold in bb, specially when they see him popping around in tv serie's King of queens"

Stil look's like a real bb, no hair loss,no heart problems,no kidney failure, and you see him at the major shows, expos making few bucks while enjoying the bb life style.

Then you have  the rest of pro bb, who are just wasting money, health, and years from their lives as we speak.

Here are a few important facts to consider in this thread.

  • Bodybuilding and professional bodybuilding aren't the same thing.
  • Anabolic steroids, if used correctly, won't decrease mortality.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger's heart condition is congenital.
  • If done correctly, it's possible to keep a considerable amount of mass and definition into your 60's and 70's as long as you continue training.

Agreed.  Most pros don't use steroids in a "recreational" way.  Gear gets a bad rap in the media.
Lastly, the post should read "Is excessive roid use worth it?"  I would say, no.  Unless, you're main goal in life is to be a big and cut as you can possibly be.  Then, good luck on it. ;)
