CHICKEN HAWKS
« on: April 14, 2007, 10:16:56 PM »
The Republican Congressional leadership:
(until recently) ALL "CHICKENHAWKS":

Republicans Conservative attacked President Clinton for having questioned the Vietnam War.  But unlike ChickenHawks, Liberals like Bill Clinton fought to save ALL American young men from injury and/or death in a senseless war -- which most of us now belatedly understand was the right thing to do. --
On the other hand there were literally millions of dishonest hypocritical, cowardly conservatives who supported the war and argued in favor of other young Americans going off to fight and die in Vietnam, while "conserving" their own precious hides stateside!  Here are just a few of these high profile, holier than thou hypocrites:

George W. Bush -- used his family connections (what else is new?!?) to get into the Air National Guard and then "deserted" his post for two years. but still got an "Honorable Discharge".

DEMOCRATIC LEADERS
who "walked the walk" :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While most Democrats don't just say that war should be the last resort but truly believe it and try to resolve conflicts through more peaceful means, when just wars have been necessary and unavoidable, they have a long established record of putting their own lives and those of their own children on the line, rather than persuading other people to sacrifice themselves and their children:

Senator & Presidential Candidate McGovern, one of the elite few Air Force bomber pilots to fly the maximum 35 successful bombing missions in WW II. Stephen Ambrose, who wrote a book about him, called him "one of the greatest patriots I know."
Former Vice President Al Gore - enlisted August 1969; sent to Vietnam January 1971 as an army journalist, assigned to the 20th Engineer Brigade headquartered at Bien Hoa, an airbase twenty miles northeast of Saigon.
Senator John Kerry, Lt., U.S. Navy 1966-70; Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat V, and three awards of the Purple Heart for his service in combat.
Gov. & President Jimmy Carter: Lt. Commander in the Navy 1946-53.
Gov. & presidential candidate, Michael Dukakis: Army 1955-57.
Sen. John Glenn: WWII and Korea; six DFCs; Air Medal w/18 Clusters.
Gov. & U.S. Sen. Chuck Robb: U.S. Marine Corps, 1961-70, Vietnam.
Senator Daniel Inouye, US Army 1943-'47; Medal of Honor, World War Two.
Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) - U.S. Army, 1951-1953.
Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) - Lt., U.S. Navy, 1962-67; Naval Reserve, 1968-74.
Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) - U.S. Army Ranger, 1971-1979; Captain, Army Reserve 1979-91.
Senator Fritz Hollings (D-SC) - served as a U.S. Army officer in World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and seven campaign ribbons.
Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle - 1st Lt., U.S. Air Force SAC 1969-72.
Former Senator Bob Kerrey... Democrat... Lt. j.g., U.S. Navy 1966-69; Medal of Honor, Vietnam
Former Senator Max Cleland, Captain, U.S. Army 1965-68; Silver Star & Bronze Star, Vietnam.
Sen. Howell Heflin: Silver star.
Representative Richard Gephardt, former House Minority Leader - Missouri Air National Guard, 1965-71..
Representative David Bonior - Staff Sgt., United States Air Force 1968-72.
Representative Charles Rangel, Staff Sgt., U.S. Army 1948-52; Bronze Star, Korea.

Representative Leonard Boswell (D-IA) - Lt. Col., U.S. Army 1956-76; two tours in Vietnam, two Distinguished Flying Crosses as a helicopter pilot, two Bronze Stars, and the Soldier's Medal.
Former Representative "Pete" Peterson, Air Force Captain, POW, Ambassador to Viet Nam, and recipient of the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and the Legion of Merit.
Rep. Mike Thompson, D-CA: Staff sergeant/platoon leader with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, U.S. Army; was wounded and received a Purple Heart.

Gray Davis, California Governor, Army Captain in Vietnam; received Bronze Star.
Bill McBride, Democratic Candidate for Florida Governor - volunteered and served as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam; awarded Bronze Star with a combat "V."
Gen. Wesley Clark, Democratic Presidential Candidate - lengthy military career.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the most consistent supporters among prominent Democrats of G.W. Bush, when it comes to his war in Iraq, is Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Joe never served in the military, which may be why he has been one of the Democratic Party's most enthusiastic chickenhawks, and why he was a prime candidate to become Bush's Secretary of Defense, if and when Rumsfeld could be forced to resign.

you couldn't find one person that supports the war that served? I mean serious. See the difference between Vietnam and Iraq is we are all volunteer military now. I agree it was bad in vietnam that people that never served would send others to fight for them. But In my 10 years of service I have been deployed for 5. But that is my job, the other 5 I have collected a pay check all the same. I don't have a problem going to Iraq again if needed, I joined as a volunteer.

So what?  I haven't "served" either.  Neither have a majority of my generation, unlike previous generations when we had a draft and major wars.  Does that mean I'm not entitled to an opinion on the current war one way or the other?

Great post. One thing......you missed, Rush "opium" Limbaugh who missed the Vietnam war due to a pimple on his ass.

This list clearly shows who the talkers are......vs..... who are willing to FIGHT for their country.

Vinny.....don't waste your time talking to guys like MM69.....this moron says the U.S. won the Vietnam war. ( Koolaid drinking, delusional  putz.)

Most of us Ignore/Mute MM69.........because his face is usually stuck to Rush "opium" Limbaugh, as well as Bill "phone sex" O'Reilly's ASS.  :-* (Neither served.)

Just ignore him..........he's worthless.....besides, he calls himself "MilitaryMuscle" yet he's an Air Force guy who saw NO ACTION in the Iraq theater. Unlike myself.

MM69= All talk.............NO WALK. Typical GOPer ChickenHawk, in my book. He only deserves to be IGNORED......due to his blind IGNORANCE.

BTW Vinny, Mr Intenseone is another Rush / O'Reilly ass kissing, ChickenHawk suckup, who should be treated like the CHICKENHAWK he is.

How could he not?  You talk about it every day.  You deserve major props for your combat service, but I also find the constant attempt to demean others based on their lack of service irritating.

You don't have to use your service as some sort of weapon.  Lots of people on here, including me, respect and appreciate what you've done for your country.

he doesn't only bash those that haven't served, he bashes those that were there beside him because our opinion of what was going on is different...

True.  He attacked you because you served in the Air Force and wgtlifter because he served in the Navy.  I don't make any distinctions.  I think all three of you made an equal sacrifice in service to your country.  Kudos to all of you.

Edit:  And Headhunter too.

Hope this helps.

You think just because someone served that nakes them an "expert" on the war, I thought Doctors were smarter than that?

well he doesn't even try to hear our experience in Iraq, everyone assumes that the navy sit out in the gulf, but forget about SEABEES and corpsmen. Same with the Air Force, they assume we just sit behind the wall but forget about RED HORSE, EOD and others that are on the outside on a daily basis.

No not the same difference..........at least Bush was apart of the military no matter how you want to classify him, Clinton.......well :-\.

Another............One "coward", Clinton, didn't do anything (basically ran) when we were attacked on his watch while the other faced it head on and is trying to do something against it!

people think that EVERY military member gets deployed during a war. Currently only 50% of the military force has actually see time in Iraq/Afghan. So are those people that havent' gone classified as cowards? Bush was just one of many that were in the military during Vietnam that didn't actually do time in vietnam
