I disagree, it was really more tongue and cheek, and it was completely new at the time. The whole idea about going to the gym was foreign to mainstream America, but the idea was a hit and they all ran out and started lifting and doing aerobics, and also the gay thing at the end hinted at what was already going on in New York City, the fitness and the out and proud stuff. It was shocking for its day and the end part was banned by many TV stations.
all and all a very significant pop culturally significant.
I am not suprised the humour and significance is lost on getbigers, they are sold out to corporate controlled media.
