Derek's mother was a grade school teacher for 32 years. She was held with the highest regard in the school district. His father, a strict disciplinarian, was an X- U.S Marine. He now works as a senior administrator for the Dept. of Homeland Security.

How could you bring such shame on your family Derek. You are indeed an abomination.

I think that Derek's parents must be going through hell right now. Watching their son self-destruct before their eyes can't be a pleasant experience. I would not wish this on any family.

It is easy to hate and mock Derek. I think having a little empathy would, and could go, a long way to saving him. After all, he is just a human being who has lost his way.
