Quit lying.  You don't respect the military.  You bash them on here practically every day.  You are a military-hating liberal.  Here is what you think about our men and women in uniform:

Why is this a stupid comment?  Because, among other things, it fails to take into account all of the men and women at our service academies who could have gone to Harvard or Yale, but chose West Point and Naval Academy instead.  You know, those schools you weren't qualified to get into.

And there are doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. in the military, so they don't all go into the private sector.

Spare me your anti-military crap.
West Point is (or at least was) the 2nd hardest school to get into here.

It's one of the hardest schools to get into in the country, along with the other service academies.  Most of those kids could go to any other school in the country.

Are the brightest minds in our country, at a higher percentage:

1) In advanced fields like CS, medicine, law, engineering, etc, or
2) In the military?

If you pulled 100 random folks from the army, and 100 random folks from an engineering school, tell me, which group would have the highest average IQ?

Beachbum, you know the answer to this one ;)

Geeze Louise.  How many dumb comments can you make in one thread 240?  Compare apples with apples:  pull 100 random folks from West Point and 100 random folks from "an engineering school."  Good grief . . .

So yes, the top minds ARE NOT in the military.  This is a fact.  If using facts makes you a liberal, well, okay.

We're talking about the intelligence level of Americans.

This *IS* apples with apples. I believe the brightest Americans go to medical or engineering school.  You believe the brightest Americans go into the military.  Statistically, one of these groups will have an average higher IQ.  You think it'll be the military, I think it will be one of the other groups.

You've backed yourself into a position here which is becoming (painfully obviously) transparently wrong.  You KNOW the average med school student will be smarter than the average military man, statistically.  Yet your emotion won't let you look at facts.

[sigh] Stop making stuff up.  Go back and read the thread son.  You made a comment about ALL members of our military.  "So yes, the top minds ARE NOT in the military.  This is a fact."  Stupid comment.  Factually inaccurate comment.

Our brightest minds go to the best schools in the country, which include the service academies.  Do some homework and you can determine how difficult the admissions standards are.  This alone disputes your comment.

Doctors, lawyers, nurses, pilots, astronauts, and engineers are all part of the military.  This alone makes your comment absurd.

Look, daughter,
Our top minds are distributed across many areas of study, in both private and public practice.

MORE - a higher % - of them find work in places other than military.  Sorry, it's just how it is.  Yes, the military has talented people.  but private sector has more of them on average.

I know it upsets you, and you probably have ten stories about smart guys you know, and that's super dooper.  But in the end, brilliant people usually get rich working in pvt sector.  not working for standard military pay.   But hey, you work for a university and you're a military man, you wouldn't know much about the pvt sector.

listen, admitted dropout,

You just went from discussing the issue to insulting me.

You just went from discussing the message to attacking the messenger.

You always do this when you lose the argument.  you call me a CTer and attempt to get me to leave the thread.

You always do this when you lose, and you just did it.

YAWN.  Listen, Mrs. Doubtfire, you made a ridiculous comment.  I corrected it.  You failed to acknowledge how stupid your comment was and instead tried to change the subject, use absurd hypotheticals, etc.

And you are the absolute worst ad hominem offender on this board.  I do it on occasion, almost exclusively with you, but talk about the pot . . . .

This isn't about winning or losing.  It's about an exchange of ideas.  There are some very smart liberals on this board who are quite capable of discussion, debate, etc. without insult (Decker, for example).  Then there are the liberals, like you, who are completely incapable of having a discussion without eventually resorting to ad hominem.

I can happily debate politics with you.  We're both passionate and we both cite sources.

But when you disrespect the family unit like that, I don't want to be around you.

You're a disgusting person when you disrespect the role of parents.

Good for you. I wasn't trying to impress, just stating my income for someone who is 44, that has a "shit job" with no money. My mommy and daddy couln't afford to send me to school even If I wanted to.

BTW, it's people like you (Dr's) that I get alot of my business from, thanks!

What field would you have majored in if you had gone to College?

I did go to college, I came up short of a degree because I got married early, I had about 2 1/2 years of anatomy/phyisology and later biomechanics/exercise physiology. I make up for what I missed in school by attending seminars around the country that pertain to my field including phyiscal therapy siminars. For what I missed in school I more than made up on the outside having my own business.

you love to use that title to label anyone who disagrees with you.

The man believes that people in the military aren't that smart.  If you look at it from a socioeconomic standpoint of who enters - you're going to see a lot more poor, uneducated kids enter... than you are going to see ivy leage graduate rich kids.

So yes, the top minds ARE NOT in the military.  This is a fact.  If using facts makes you a liberal, well, okay.

So are you saying that there aren't people that could have gone to Ivy League schools in the military?

I never said that.  Of course there are.

I am speaking on a higher %.

If you evaluated the average IQ of all groups, and compared military to pvt sector, the pvt sector will be higher.  This isn't hatred or meanness or liberalism talking - it's simple facts.  Military takes many people whom high level pvt sector groups would not.

So settle down.  I appreciate the military's job as much as the next guy.  But it would be silly to say the average IQ of the military is higher than the average IQ of a medical school graduating class, wouldn't it?

I agree.  Kudos to you Coach.  If you're making $32K a month, or $384,000 year, you're earning more than 90 percent of most Americans (probably closer to 99 percent).  Awesome accomplishment, particularly without a college degree.

It's one of the hardest schools to get into in the country, along with the other service academies.  Most of those kids could go to any other school in the country.

Maybe, but when they needed some work done AT WEST POINT... They brought me in... They didn't do it there.

I flew up to NY, drove around the Hudson River Valley, crossed a bridge... drove up to the front gate, gave them my name, and drove on in and did work that THEY could not accomplish at the time.

Now... I'm not going to talk about officers or enlisted men... I'm going to talk about people.

There are many intelligent people in the Military, who join because of a sense of duty or devotion, there are also many people who join due to depravity and are simply trying to better themselves.

Just because they are "deprived" though, doesn't make them less intelligent than anyone else... perhaps they didn't get a foundation for advancement from their home life growing up, perhaps they truly were in an social environment that didn't reward success...

It doesn't make them less intelligent.

Do I believe that "military intelligence" is an oxymoron... sometimes... Sure. Look at the hell that is Iraq.

Do I think that there is ANY statistical information that says that people in the military are "less" intelligent than anywhere else. No.

Many people join the military to get a GI Bill, so they can get out and afford their education... That makes them smart enough to stay out of debt.

Are there idiots anywhere... of course. There are idiots in the Military (I think our wonderful Commander in Chief is a prime example of idiocy in the Military), HOWEVER, you can't say that there are more or less intelligent people in the real world.

I see idiots walking around every day... and there's more than one on these boards.

So, for anyone to make a blanket statement like that... FOR or AGAINST... is silly.
