Vince,
You looked fantastic as Mr. Canada. I don't think there are many people on this board who wouldn't want a physique like that.
For the record, what were your measurements then? I'm guessing 18" arms, 48" chest, and a weight of 200-210. Am I close?
As I age, I experience the same situation as you - it's very easy to gain weight and hard to lose it. I am as active as I was as a teen ( I have been a bicycle racer since that time and still ride the same hours per week).
I am beginning to think that our high sugar, high starch diet does some serious damage to our pancreas over the years. Its just a guess. When I was young, I could eat all sorts of garbage and still be lean.
The increased onset of diabetes in the US is making me think that there is something more in play besides slow metabolism and lack of exercise. I changed my diet some months back to low carb, high fat and moderate protein. I dropped 15 pounds in a flash (about 6 weeks), and have been slowly losing 1 pound a week since then. At this rate I will be as lean as I want to be in about 12-15 weeks. I experience periodic urges to eat "junk" but for the most part, this is a very easy plan to follow.
I had a blood test recently and my "bad" cholesterol has dropped like a rock. So did the triglycerides. The doctor wondered what the heck I have been doing, he was so impressed, lol. I told him, the "Banting Diet"
