Vince,

I remember seeing one of your mr. canada pics.  Can you post it as well as any others you have from back then.  The photo was kind of dark and was in black and white.  I was hoping maybe you had some other photos.

Thanks.

Great physique Vince!
and thx for posting the pics!

I remember reading some of your theories on DOMS.  They were interesting.

What are the latest developments on your ideas?  What do the workouts look like (frequency, intensity, reps, sets, ect)?

Also, how tall are you and how much did you weigh in those pics from 1970?

Thanks Vince.

Is this guy a fan or a weirdo?

Vince,

You looked fantastic as Mr. Canada. I don't think there are many people on this board who wouldn't want a physique like that.

For the record, what were your measurements then? I'm guessing 18" arms, 48" chest, and a weight of 200-210. Am I close?

As I age, I experience the same situation as you - it's very easy to gain weight and hard to lose it. I am as active as I was as a teen ( I have  been a bicycle racer since that time and still ride the same hours per week).

I am beginning to think that our high sugar, high starch diet does some serious damage to our pancreas over the years. Its just a guess. When I was young, I could eat all sorts of garbage and still be lean.

The increased onset of diabetes in the US is making me think that there is something more in play besides slow metabolism and lack of exercise. I changed my diet some months back to low carb, high fat and moderate protein. I dropped 15 pounds in a flash (about 6 weeks), and have been slowly losing 1 pound a week since then. At this rate I will be as lean as I want to be in about 12-15 weeks. I experience periodic urges to eat "junk" but for the most part, this is a very easy plan to follow.

I had a blood test recently and my "bad" cholesterol has dropped like a rock. So did the triglycerides. The doctor wondered what the heck I have been doing, he was so impressed, lol. I told him, the "Banting Diet"

Dude had an excellent physique for 1970. Even by todays standards, he'd have a pleasing build.

To be honest i'd say it was solid for that time, not excellent. Canadian BB standards were not world-class overall then IMO, improved considerably during the 70s. Good calves but thighs for example seriously lacking attention. There was another BB from Canada that i remember around that time, Jerome something maybe Vince knows who got a little press in the early 70s.

The best Canadian BB i remember from the 70s was Louis Dickenson of Ottawa in the mid-70s. Like Dillet of Montreal, not indigent Canadian-Carribean genetics at 6'1", 230 lb. and lacking in focus, didn't get beyond some regional wins. Roger Walker size with small joints and minus the blockiness.

Here is the first image online of the biceps-supinator. This was invented by myself and built totally by myself in my engineering factory. I tried to sell the design to Nautilus and Cybex but they were not interested. So this machine has cost me over $100,000 to patent and build. Surely it is the most expensive machine ever installed in a gym.

This machine was conceived in 1986, and first conception on paper was in 1991. I obtained patents from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany and Australia. You have to apply to each country. Then you have to pay thousands of dollars per year to maintain those patents. I wouldn't patent anything in the future! I built the first version in 2001 and then modified it several times since. The last major surgery occurred last year. I am quite pleased with this machine. There are many adjustments and it really is a complex machine with lots of angles needed. It works, though! Lots of stainless steel on the prototype. I will paint it silver soon.

Even Arthur Jones was unable to build this machine. It is undoubtedly the most complicated bodybuilding machine with weight stacks that has ever been installed in a gym. When used properly it can result in an absolutely brutal biceps workouts. You can twist the arms and get a resistance. Each arm can be trained separately, too. The curl plates are 20 pounds and the supination plates are 5 1/2 pounds.

Awesome machine................. .or you could just use one of THESE!!

Bro...I hate to burst your bubble...but these "unique" machines you have "invented" have been around for YEARS.

Your leg extension, bicep curl, assisted chin/dip, etc.....are in just about every gym I've ever trained in, for many years now.

I'm sure your machines work just fine, but please...stop the "re-inventing the wheel, spiel".

Vince.  It is impressive, the physique you built in your younger days.  This is more than 99% of this board or bb in general will attain.

You have withstood some major bashing here and came back.  Your engineering ideas and real world experiance make you to some,, seem arrogant......but for the most of us, we can learn a few things from you.....

Props, Warhorse.

hey Vince,

congratulations, fantastic photos. great physique. you did something less than 40 people have done since; won the Canadians! no small feat.

it is unfortunate that some people can't put aside their personal agendas for a moment and acknowledge how impressive a victory it was, and how great you looked.

It is quite disheartening to find others copying my designs and companies not at all interested. I mean, should a unique invention of a bodybuilding machine have to be announced on Getbig? I haven't been invited to write for any magazines or talk about equipment, either. No wonder most of us become cynical in this world. If you don't promote yourself I doubt anyone else will. That much is certain.

Ideas in any business only go so far without someone expert & determined to bring them home.

Harold Zinkin's Universal Machine for example, was generally good but could've been better, had some serious flaws that could've been avoided IMO. Same with some of the Nautilus machines. They both found funding & distribution.

I visited Sydney University where I got my masters degree in philosophy to consult with the head of the mechanical engineering department. He couldn't solve the problem of having the machine generate resistance in two degrees of freedom. I did read robot technology but the unique problem I had was to have those mechanisms outside the user arms. The key was having a pulley at the elbow pivot point. That allowed two forces to be generated separately or at the same time.

I would say I spent at least 200 hours on the design of this machine. Those who scoff at engineering and gym equipment should try building machines. Have a look at who has made machines for bodybuilding among champion bodybuilders. I can think of Larry Scott who had some basic apparatus and not many others who came up with anything at all that is memorable. It is quite disheartening to find others copying my designs and companies not at all interested. I mean, should a unique invention of a bodybuilding machine have to be announced on Getbig? Hmm. Sentiments like these are what separate us from the saints: the need for recognition; the need for some  satisfactory accolade. Take heart, Vince. The Roman Emperors on their returning triumphs had a slave whisper  in their ear 'all this is fleeting.'  :)

Here are two photos from the 1970 Mr Canada contest held in Vancouver, BC.

While I'm not a fan of your super long posts I think that's an impressive physique. And everyone making fun of your current physique should note that Vince not only built a better physique than 99.9% of everyone on getbig, but he did it back in 1970. Not bad. (But please, from now on, edit your posts to 1/4 their length :) )
