One day all commercial benches using barbells will require safety rails. Why this industry hasn't been regulated is a mystery. I design safety into all of my equipment.

I am surprised those who are trained as engineers haven't commented on my designs. I did receive one PM congratulating me on my equipment. He had a position at a university in engineering.

Natural selection. Survival fo the fittest, literally. If you are too dumb to bench, please die.

He is lying, he never received only one PM, not even out of pity. It was his nurse, who is reading out getbig to him and has to type who told him he had an PM so that he'd calm down and take his medicine.

Remember the drunk dad (Dennis Hopper) in Hoosiers going crazy when the team won the state championship?

That's how I envisioned Vince right now.

OK here is why. its impossible to have a full stretch of pecs with a safety bar, it gets in the way when you lower the bar to chest.

mystery solved

Here's a Vince pic to tide you over:

Can we se a pic of you please? Now, and when you are 65? I think it's great Vince posts here and I find the disrespect you show him strange. Why is it so hard to accept him being proud of his accomplishments?

Goatboy won't ever show his face or physique here. That much is certain.

About the bench press with safety rails. Well, the rails are set so that the bar cannot compress the neck. There is plenty of depth for low bench presses. Ditto, inclines and declines.

Since when is stretch so important, anyway? It amazes me the old bodybuilders tales that are believed by so many around the gym scene. Daily I am amazed by what people actually believe. They hold their ideas as if set in stone, too. Quite impenetrable are muscleheads. The stretched position is important in triceps and calf training. Not sure about chest.

sorry to break ur fantasy grandpa vince

you put a safety rail and think you are a genius but the idea is amazingly dumb, makes benching very awkward and ineffective.

then u go blow hundreds of thousands designing machines and polishing them till it shines. then you probably cant sell a single one because no one cares. ppl are happy with dumbells and basic gym machines that work just as well and cost much less

i am beggining to agree with chick, u are warped in the mind

respect to u for getting in shape when u were young, you had quite a good physique, but even then your physique was really nothing special

i wish u all the best in ur gym business, and hopefully u stop blowing money on such junk instead save them up for retirement or healthcare. or if you really feel an urge to blow money, i will send you my paypal address...take care grandpa

Here is the stainless steel counterweight on my Hack squat machine. This quality is nowhere else in gym equipment. The counterweight runs on linear motion bearings.

I was wondering what that was on the hack squat machine. Does it make the movement much smoother?

Ah, it should be refreshing to hear the opinions of so many experts.

What is wrong about have a vision for a gym with the best possible equipment? For example, I make all my handles out of self-polishing stainless steel. They don't tarnish and there is no chrome to peel off.

I made my equipment for longevity. I have a son and 2 daughters who work at our club. I make things so bodybuilders will use them and that they cannot destroy. They are way over engineered for that reason.

No one has ever complained about the safety rails on my equipment. We have not had an injury with any of that apparatus, either. We have some super strong guys in the gym. One weighs about 350 pounds and is very strong. They would tell me if the equipment interfered with their training.

Sure it cost me more to make my own equipment. That is my choice and what should it matter to anyone else? I am doing my thing and everyone else can do theirs.

hey big guy relax. the only one claiming to be expert here is u, i never said i was an expert, it was just my opinion. as for blowing loads of cash on machines, i just said it was unessary and foolish, didnt say it was wrong. u can build them out of moonrock if u want to

Agree entirely on the rails; it not only helps with the obvious in terms of safety but in addition, is one of the reasons i like good machines-the added safety allows further training into failure without worry.

True, it's ok to question convention.

Engineers are theoretically the best suited for design but in the real world don't always come up with the best results.

It is strange that I am posting so many of my photos here. I have never put up any photos of myself in my gym and I have owned a gym since 1971. Others put a few photos up but I never did. The Mr Canada images were never displayed. A few years ago we did a history of the gym and a small image of me winning that title is in the entrance hall. I guess after seeing how many photos Vince Gironda had of himself on the walls of his gym I vowed never to do that.

I have a mate, Robert Nailon, who is a great physique photographer and artist. He always had images of here I am with so and so. I didn't follow suit and didn't take many photos of champions who visited my gym or home. I don't have a photo of Arnold and me posing and he was at my home for dinner and came to my gym twice. There was a photo of the two of us when I was interviewing him at one of his first seminars in 1974. He posed in my gym then.

Here I am with Zabo Koszewski, who was known as Mr Abs. He did situps and midsection work for 40 minutes or more. I never did many situps. In those days not many guys remained muscular all year. I visited Golds Gym on my honeymoon in June 1969. I was married for 30 and am still in business with Roz who co-owns our gym.
hahahaha, what a couple of physical specimens. ::)

I always liked the archer pose. I tried to show Arnold in 1968 how to do it at Golds Gym but he pushed me away. I preferred to do the complete body arc. Here is my interpretation while showing Willie Vuki in Fiji in January 1969. I wrote a story about Fiji that was published in Strength and Health magazine. I will post it later.

WOW...I'm shocked. First, you try and give the barbarians advices (unsolicited) and they almost beat you more senseless than you are....and now you try and give ARNOLD a few pointers on posing and he "pushed you away".....at least you're still the same guy you were back in the day....annoying.

You were starting to look a little normal with the equipment pics, etc........until.... you took a sharp left at the corner of Stupid St. and Imanannoyinglittlefuck Ave.

You have no shame, I'll give you that...

Chick did it ever occur to you that Arnold was among other great things also obnoxious, just hides it better now? Ask those 15 women or Robby about it. Back in the 60s Vince Gironda put him in his place with the fat f*** comment LOL
