Bro...I hate to burst your bubble...but these "unique" machines you have "invented" have been around for YEARS.

Your leg extension, bicep curl, assisted chin/dip, etc.....are in just about every gym I've ever trained in, for many years now.

I'm sure your machines work just fine, but please...stop the "re-inventing the wheel, spiel".

bob you are an idiot.

Vince is describing mechanically subtle variations of machines that were designed to replicate older style free weight movements without considering the ability to make changes that only a machine can afford due to it not being constrained to just work in a plane acted upon by gravity.

but you wouldnt get this because you dont understand mechanics...which is why you posted that stupid dumbbell to Vince's first post...

FUNDAMENTAL to effective training and use of the body's energy reserves (which are finite) is to be able to apply intensity that is directly applied to the energy you have. If half of the exercise energy is wasted working through sub-optimal force vectors then you are robbing yourself of that precious reserve you have.

There is alot of merit in what Vince write about his machines but dumb-asses like yourself just cant grasp it as steroids have always allowed you to grow just by combing your hair- or applying your hair piece.

some people- the majority in fact, need to be smart about training. Having a seat below a pivot point is a great idea...however with respect Vince- a CAM arrangement is even better as it allows the user to move through points of weak mechanical leverage...im sure you'll agree.

To thos who dont ahve a clue about what im writing-thats fine...but if you insist on being a jerk about it just because you are blissfully ignorant then expect to look like a fool like Chic does here day in day out.

BTW, disco_stu, did you know that Vince Basile also invented the disco one night when he went out with his buddies to a bar and decided he would need some loud music?

Hi Vince, I have been reading about all this equipment you have invented and how much it all cost. You rock, how come I have got the same looking machines, including a 1000lb calf and a tricep pushdown with a leaning backrest. This stuff was made by sports kinetics. I know the guy that designed it and it is not you. hmmmmmmm?

Hey Tony, You got a cool gym. :) Great equipment, great pics on the walls (like a BB museum or hall of fame).. I recommend any visitors to Melbourne (Aus) to check it out.

1991 Hack squat/calf machine. This is a $20,000 machine and is probably the highest quality machine ever installed in a gym. I took over 120 hours to design it. I changed the angle a couple of years ago and extended the length, too. Lots of polished stainless steel on the machine.

Hi again Mr inventor, how can you claim this is worth $20,000. More like $2000. Here are a couple of shots of my hack squat, you can adjust it from 40 - 70 degrees. It is all adjustable and if yours is the highest quality machine ever installed in a gym then this, is just amazing. It cost $8000. So it makes you look like not only a great inventor but also a great investor. You must think everyone here is stupid.

They guy that made these pieces, Micheal never mentioned that he paid for his designs. You may be right on this. I am sure Vince will tell us why this equipment is all similar to look at.

Thanks JWB, it has always been a big hit with the pros when they have trained here, at 70 degrees it makes you want to chuck.

Sometimes I make people do 2 sets at 70, 2 at 65, 2 at 60, 2 at 55, 2 at 50, 2 at 45 and 2 at 40. It is annoying to keep adjusting it but usually makes people vomit which is always good for a laugh in the morning.

terilli or mitsos told me that years ago... can't remember which one though.

i'm pretty sure vince had stuff out before sports kinetics was on the scene.

he definitely supplied a gym in surry hills (can't remember the name) with stuff he made in 1984 or 85 because it all had date of manufacture on the frames.

it was VERY heavy duty stuff... the frames were only 50mm x 50mm RHS but they were at least 4-5mm thick tubing because the benches were heavy to move around.

all the stacks had linear bearings which made them very smooth.

having said that I didn't agree with the angles on a few things...

The brand is MuscleWorks, the company was in Frankston I think. He was by far the best designer and manufacturer in Oz. He was not so good at business and marketing however and his sales dried up. Still the best made stuff I have seen. Mick Curren from memory.

I don't think vince is saying the raw materials for that machine cost $20K but that the COMBINED cost of materials, his labor (whatever he values that at per hour) during design and making of, his consumables (welding products, cutting wheels etc), the rent on his workshop etc.

At least I hope that is what he means for his sake because $20k is a lot of cash for some steel!

I think he charged himself $2000 alone for the photo shoot of the equipment
