maybe youre too outta shape to perform them?

ill be back later, im gonna do some useless pull ups

You build muscle by increasing the work load each exercise session.  That's not easily done with push-ups.  It's not like you can add 5 lbs to the bar, then in a few weeks add 5 more lbs, etc, etc, etc.

Pushups are fine for trying to maintain fitness when weights aren't available, but they should never be your "primary workout" as the video suggests.

with all due respect you aren't viewing push-ups correctly

they actually allow for much finer modulation of resistance than free-weights because it is possible to increase resistance in infintessimal increments by adjusting hand position and weight distribution.  In case you missed my post on the previous page:

ofcourse there is progressive resistance.  As you get stronger you can move from push-ups to planche push ups, to iron-cross presses, to planche iron cross presses, etc.

Bodyweight exercises are useless for building muscle since they lack progressive resistance.

They do not lack progressive resistance.  You can do the reps slower and you can always do more reps.

How about just wearing a weight belt for dips and pullups ? Bodyweight excercises are only useful for beginners. But hey if you are happy with the way you look now and want to look the same 5 years later by all means keep doing it. Fear of getting "too muscular" must be a real bitch.

great so, being an expert and all you must do planche push-ups for 20 or 30 reps right?

i am no expert, just speaking from my own expirience. The Only versions of the push up I used to do were regular, diamond, incline, and handstand. After I stopped doing pushups and started lifting weights, about two years later I was able to do about 30% more reps at a body weight of 160lbs versus 133lbs which is what I used to weigh before I started lifting. I am now up to 180-185lbs and i am pretty sure I could do even more now. I still love to do different variations of the pullup and dips with added weight. I kind of use these two excercises to keep my BF% in check, a very rough measurement but the bottom line is that if my body weight keeps going up along with my strength in these movements then a good portion of the gains is muscle. For me, the only way to make a movement more challenging is by adding weight. I think that pull ups and dips are the most overall beneficial excercises for the upper body, with added weight.

this is because you don't understand physics, and you lack an understanding of the more advanced bodyweight variations.  Knowledge of either of these two would be sufficient to allow you increase the difficulty of an exercise without adding weight.

Please do not bother to respond again if you will not take the time to understand what you are responding to.

how many idiots are going to follow TA into anorexia? making an execrise  difficult doesn't make it more productive, more weight does. doing push ups on your knuckles isn't going to produce more chest mass ::)

fucks google have to do with anything, stupid. You should know you can only increase muscle mass to a certain point with bodyweight movements. otherwise every fucking bodybuilder on this planet would be doing push up and bodyweight squats ::)

An Olympic gymnast is probably the highest level of physical development you can achieve with body weight movements, the majority of people who train that way won't even get that far. Too bad that most of olympic gymnasts weigh around 150lbs.. I am referring to male gymnasts.

they are also mostly 5'6" and under and rigorously drug tested....how big do you think they would be if they were normal height and geared up.

I have been doing it all wrong all these years, I should have been getting my training information from break-dancing videos on youtube. Thanks for showing me the errors of my ways.

you would have been better off.

It would also serve you better to sacrifice some of your pride and recognize your mistakes, so that you can learn from people that are smarter than you.  There are a lot of us, and we understand the world in ways that you probably never will.

All the Olympic athletes are drug tested, yet still find ways to cheat. You will never see an Olympic gymnast over 200lbs for the same reason you well never see a 150lb lineman in the NFL. The two sports require differnt types of training. Heavy weights and drugs produce 300+lb monsters that can run a 40 in under 5 seconds, bodyweight training produces 150lb trolls that are easier to lift with an average sized boyfriend penis.

Not saying that I am smarter than everyone else or that my methods are the best, just better than what you are proposing.

Please tell us a little bit about your training.  I don't think you have really spoken much about it since you have cut down.

As a matter of fact, I am doing Planche and Iron Cross training.  All of my workouts center around these type of exercises.  It is amazing how much stronger I have gotten in such a short amount of time.
