Protein intake post lift, pre - cardio

What is everyones opinion on this:

I'm looking to shed some weight by doing cardio after I lift and I'm only going to be doing 20 mins max. of cardio. Should I take my protein shake right after I'm done lifting or do you think I'll be ok waiting until I'm done with my cardio to take it. I don't want my muscles to go catabolic on me from my lift.

If all you are doing is 20mins, I think it would be FINE to wait until after your cardio to drink your protein (just make sure you drink it directly after your cardio session, you dont want to wait too long and become catabolic).  You ideally want to be on an empty stomach for your cardio to optimally burn fat, so thats what i would recommend!  Good luck bro!

Doing cardio first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, before you eat anything, is by far, the most effective. Whether you run, jog, walk, swim, jump rope, take an aerobics class, ride a bike, etc., doing it first thing in the morning is the best time to do it for maximum fat loss.  When you do your cardio workout, you are burning calories. Lets say you wake up, eat breakfast, eat lunch later in the day, and then a few hours after lunch, you do your cardio. All you will be doing during that cardio is burning the calories and carbs of the food you just ate. When you do cardio first thing in the morning, you haven't eaten anything for the last 8 or so hours because you were sleeping. So, when your body sees that there are no carbs to burn, it goes directly to stored bodyfat. And stored bodyfat is the fat that is on your body, which is the fat that you want to lose!


Cardio in the morning. Weights in the late afternoon early evening. then you can have your drink right after.

How much weight do you need/want to lose?

Let's put it this way. I'm 6' 6", 255 right now. I can get down to 250 by the end of the week no problem. I put the 10 lbs on because I started drinking milk again with my morning and pre-bedtime protein shakes. I'm going to rough it and get up in the morning to do my cardio and I should be able to get below 240 pretty quick I think.
