i don't know Beast, you can tell that Jay isn't a guy who's spent a lot of time deadlifting in his life, it looks like he started doing them when he realized he needed a lot more back thickness to beat Ronnie, he struggled with 495 for 7 on his video not even touching the floor between reps.
jay is no ronnie coleman, agreed, but that 495lb was of the stiff legged variety and he did 7 reps in a fairly smooth style. as you say, not touching the floor between reps.
anyone that has spent some time deadlifting knows that if you drop it all the way to floor and take the tension off between reps it provides a good base to refocus, fill up your body with air and power out another rep and so on.
besides this point, the trap bar keeps the weight centred and closer to the power axis (centre of the body), whereas a stiff legged deadlift with continuous tension the way jay did them is much harder to perform because the weight is in front of the body and thus creates greater leverage tension.
in short, the stiff legged deadlifts executed the way jay does in his vid are much harder to perform than the trap bar power lifts displayed by layne.
