Jay struggles to do 495 for reps and I'm sure Layne could match him if not top him.  Just because Jay is Mr. Olympia doesn't mean he's stronger than Layne.

Matt, are you homosexual?

I don't think people realize how strong Jay is.  Anyone who's seen his video "one step closer," and has done a bbing competition, knows how strong you have to be to rep out 9 plates on T-bar rows 3 weeks out from a show....not to mention 500lb deads, bent rows, 200lb dumbell rows, and whatever else he did in that video.

not natural, look at his competition and offseason pics.

bigger at competition time then he is in the offseason  (no it's not the ripped look that makes it look bigger)

means small amounts of test, and hgh/slin/igf are used

natural when tested, but not in reality.

looks pretty crap for a juicer to be honest
he's 230 contest and probably 200 or a little under for a contest.  Stop talking about shit you know nothing about.

Attacking the fact that I didn't use paragraphs?  You're here double spacing most of your posts; As you say, trying to seem more intelligent than you actually are. It's as if you're looking to impress someone which is what you are trying to say about layne... "insecure"?
I'm not comparing Ali's talent, showmanship, determination or anything unrealated to the fact that he used his vocabulary to voice his thoughts.  You could say you compared Layne to Shakespear "(i can't believe the stuff we talk about here)"  Because he wasn't, in your opinion Quietly workingout.

ok, i see we're still harping on about layne's gym vocabulary. ::)

i use paragraphs with spacing to make my posts easier to read, but i do accept reading might present some difficulty to you with layne's testicles blocking your vision. :-*

i'll make it easy for you matt.

you have never seen jay do trap bar deadlifts powerlifting style.

accept the fact that you've been owned and quietly walk away with some dignity. ;)

Layne are you really a metro-sexual?  I am aware you have many feminine characteristics but a nattie-metro i was not!

Layne you have an appalling structure for bodybuilding!  You also need to work on your posing as you appear way to feminine in many shots.

Hang in there, the industry needs more personalities.

Matt C i think you forgot that Jay did 495lb stiff-leg deadlifts in his One Step Closer video, with textbook form i might add, i think he did 7 continuous reps. imo he could deadlift 650 for 2-3 at his strongest but who knows, could be more or could be less, he sure is strong! relatively speaking, of course

yes, i think matt was being disingenuous in a pathetic attempt to prove a point at jay's expense.

makes you wonder about the quality, credibility and honesty of those reviews that he does. :-\

This sums it up.  All the reviews and weights are also on my website if anyone is interested.  I'm sure Layne is close to all of this and he hasn't been on GH since kindergarten.  Jay is strong on an absolute scale, but not in relation to his size and how much juice he uses.  Layne is putting up similar numbers and is 100 pounds lighter.  Layne told me he can do 315 for eight on the bench press even after not doing flat bench for three months and I believe him.

Go ask Jay to perform the 550 trap bar deadlifts and tell me how many reps he gets.  I think you would be surprised.

so what you're saying is that you HAVE NEVER actually seen jay do trap bar deadlifts at all?

you're now saying that jay IS stronger "but not in relation to his size and how much juice he uses". so you know for a fact that jay uses a lot of juice and layne has been completely natural since "kindergarten"? how long have you known layne so personally ???

how do you know all these facts matt? i mean, apart from layne telling them to you and the ones you surmised all by yourself without any evidence whatsoever?

hmmm, smells like bullshit to me. ;)

Stop over analyzing this.  It's obvious to anyone who has seen videos of both Jay and Layne train that they are at very comparable levels, with Layne beating Jay in some areas and vice versa.  The edge overall would go to Jay, but I wouldn't be surprised if Layne beats him on deadlifts, trap bar or not.

oh i agree with you on Layne, Matt, he's a very strong and very hard trainer, i believe that the only thing Jay would be stronger on than Layne is pressing movements due to having 70-75 pounds more bodyweight but on everything else layne is right there with him which is testament to his work ethic as a natural.

i don't know Beast, you can tell that Jay isn't a guy who's spent a lot of time deadlifting in his life, it looks like he started doing them when he realized he needed a lot more back thickness to beat Ronnie, he struggled with 495 for 7 on his video not even touching the floor between reps.

Another good assessment.  No matter how you cut it, Layne and Jay are close.  550 for five, even with the trap bar, is no joke.

jay is no ronnie coleman, agreed, but that 495lb was of the stiff legged variety and he did 7 reps in a fairly smooth style. as you say, not touching the floor between reps.

anyone that has spent some time deadlifting knows that if you drop it all the way to floor and take the tension off between reps it provides a good base to refocus, fill up your body with air and power out another rep and so on.

besides this point, the trap bar keeps the weight centred and closer to the power axis (centre of the body), whereas a stiff legged deadlift with continuous tension the way jay did them is much harder to perform because the weight is in front of the body and thus creates greater leverage tension.

in short, the stiff legged deadlifts executed the way jay does in his vid are much harder to perform than the trap bar power lifts displayed by layne.

Layne has done that.  I just wish I could find the clip...it might have been 405 though, but if I recall correctly it was 495.
