The NFL doesn't have to abide by that, the evidence is overwhelming. They could suspend him for just being associated with the Dog Fighting ring, even for just going to one event. They have that authority. They should use it.

I didn't say they couldn't do it. I suggested that until he is proven guilty, out of fairness they shouldn't do it. The presumption of innocence for people accused of wrongdoing is an important principle in our society, and it's sad that so many low-IQ types ignore it. If Vick is proven guilty, fine, throw the book at him... but until that happens, it's just an accusation. What If I accused you of being a pedophille? Should your employer fire you now, or maybe should they wait to see if it's true or not?

Urge the NFL to suspend Michael Vick from play under strong suspicion of criminal activity

You may have heard the news that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick faces felony charges and possible prison time for animal abuse stemming from alleged dog fighting activities. He is accused of running an interstate dog fighting ring, and of killing numerous dogs himself -- by shooting, hanging, drowning, and electrocution -- simply because they were not good fighters.

While Vick continues to maintain his innocence, the evidence against him is substantial and still mounting. Authorities found more than 50 pit bulls, along with a full supply of standard dog fighting equipment (including a "rape stand" used for forced breeding, treadmills, drugs to increase aggression, and a bloodstained fighting pit), at Vick's Virginia home.

The charges against Vick are very serious, and if they are true, he must be severely punished. Lawmakers increased the penalty for dog fighting in May 2007 with passage of the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act, which doubles the potential prison sentence for those who engage in the interstate transport of animals used for fighting. Vick could face several years in prison and several hundred thousand dollars in fines if he is found guilty of conducting dog fighting activities across state lines.

they're working out a deal where vick is paid but doesn't take the field this year. he's not going to practice this week.

he'll never see a down of football this year (until his friend takes all the blame of course).

everyone getting all riled up, don't bother. The NFL doesn't want to have 20,000 motivated, pissy people throwing pennies at Vick for 16 games. And they don't want a 6-month black eye. And vick doesn't want some crazy PETA member with some incurable disease throwing shots his way.

why pay the bastard?. As I said the NFL is not a democracy, they can look at the evidence for themselves and make a decision. There is no doubt he broke the decency conduct rules.

What a bunch of wimps they are trying to ride the fence. Funny how these big macho football guys are the biggest pussies.

If you don't think it's worth the effort to try then don't do it. You are dead wrong about people putting pressure on the NFL and Nike. It can and will make a difference. Watch and see. The above link is to sign an online petition from the Humane Society of the US. They have power.

Haha Atlanta Falcons football games are going to release an all hellacious fury, PETA is going to make it impossible for Falcons to play a decent game.

I don't think anyone on this board has ever come across PETAs wrath, they are crazy, it's all out, then they wave the huge towering signs of dead animals I saw them storm a Macy's when they had some fur thing going on, DAMN.

No doubt Arthur Blank and Michael Vick deserve it and deserve each other.

There is a difference here.Vick is being indited by the federal government. There have been several witnesses who have stepped forward and called Vick a "major player" in the dog fighting world. Vick owns a property with over 80 pits on it? A property with treadmills, dog fighting equipment, abused dog carcases and bloody rugs?

The NFL has every right to suspend him while this garbage is going on.
