gym etiquette meltdown rant thread!
« on: August 02, 2007, 11:11:57 AM »
not sure if it's the right word but i hate it when people wanna "work in" and take turns doing sets at the gym i dont allow this and tell em NO!

some geeks think thats bad behavioiur and is against the "gym etiquette" but as far as im concerned they can go fuck themselves. i dont work in with anybody and for some reason im always able to finish my workout anyway so why cant others? when im IN THE ZONE i dont want some punk to come and disturb me as im preparing for war and psyching myself up for my 6th set of dumbbell presses!

another thing that is annoying is people asking how many sets you got left. well when i start stripping the plates they'll know im getting there so they dont have to ask!

today at the gym one guy was preparing for benching 4,5 plates per side and one punk ass #### had the balls to disturb him to ask "how many sets you got left bro?" now what the fuck is up with that? how the hell do you get the nerves to ask a big bencher a question like that before his final set? afterwards he did ONE plate per side and struggled like a little bitch!

i wouldnt call waiting 90 seconds "IN THE ZONE", thats more in the "checking out chicks on the assisted dip machine" zone or "finding a better song on your mp3 player" zone.  and when it takes people no more than 30 seconds to complete a set theres no reason not to let someone work in

you sound like this big dummy we have at our gym.guy loads up 3 or 4 machines  including the power rack and squat rack ( which there is only one)and tries to do his gay version of super sets and giant sets at 5 oclock while the gym is packed.then he gets all pissy if while he is gone someone unloaded his wieght and started using it.then he usually will leave 4 or 5 45 plates on everything and he just leaves. so the next lady that walks up to the machine and wants to use it has to struggle to clean up after him.he also smells like a stinky farm animal. i am glad you said you were gonna strip the plates off.

yes there is. say it's a machine, weight and height need to be adjusted, and people might take too long, or not long enough which makes you off balance.

i guess it comes down to if you're serious with your training or not. if you dont give a fuck - by all means let some schmoe work in and ruin your set.

also one day i was using a machine i got up to grab my water botle i left at the last bench i was using, when i get back some older guy is using it so i stand the and wait patiently as i didnt see the reason to give him shit and tell him to get off. so i wait till he is done his set and the he just sits there hanging all over the machine and looks at me and i say mind moving please so i can finish and he gets all pissy.so i was a dick and said hey if you weren't so wrapped up in your own legend you would have noticed i was here long before you and i was nice enough to wait patiently now get out of my way.he started to talk as he got up i just put my headphones back on and took over the machine and finished my stuff.

not at all. i enver occupy more than one machine. and people leaving weights on the machines should be shot. happens all the time

life and death over here for bluto..gimme a break how often does that even happen? barely ever happens to me.

work in rarely happens people know not to ask, but the question how many sets left etc i hear a lot + the leaving weight on the machine happens a lot and its annoying like hell

something else that annoys me is people using benches for their own little cute exercises instead of what it's meant for

I was wanting to work in at the gym one time, a LONG time ago, probably 9 or 10 years ago, on a Cybex curl machine.  Wouldn't touch it now, but, at the time, it was my main exercise for biceps (everyone's gotta start somewhere).

Anyway, this douchebag was on the machine for about 5 minutes, just sitting there doing 1 set every 2 and a half minutes.  I asked him if I could work in.  His response, "I've only got 8 sets left.  You'll just have to wait."

Ever since then, if someone wants to work in, I let them.  Been that way through all the years.  It's ridiculous to not let someone do a set in between yours unless it involves stripping 6 or 7 plates off the leg press or some shit like that.  Only the BIGGEST DOUCHES at the gym don't let people work in, the same kind of guys that his poses in the mirror between sets.....

I hate when someone ask's when I am going to be done since then I feel the need to speed up and not hog anything.

As for asking to work in..Never unless you either know the person or you are the one working out that offers to have someone work in with you.

i dont take that long. but some recreational lifter is not going to come between me and my animal training. no way. no how!

the gym is a warzone. everybody need to know their place. big dogs go first. others have to wait in line!

when you let people work in with you, next they wanna work in with you in the shower. dont say i didnt warn you!

hahah, i guess arnold and corney werent "serious" with their training.  neither were dorian and his obnoxious training partner.  both these guys switched off using the machines while the other rested.

they should have just sat there with their arms folded after their sets, glaring at everyone else in the gym and waiting for their vibrating wristwatch to tell them 90 seconds had elapsed and it was time to start another set

that's a pretty lame example. training partners know eachother after months or years of training together, they work the same muscle group, often share same intensity, sets, reps and use pretty much the same weights. totally different thing than having some schmoe called "sir william idol" wanna work in and just looking at him and hearing his voice makes you lose concentration!

since you never go over 95 lbs on the bench press, it's hard to tell whether you're going up or down....

I always go by the rule if I finish I put the weights back and thats the que to anyone that I am done and they can take over, I do the same when looking for the next exercise myself. If everybody did that it would work much better.

obviously you're doing the same muscle group if the other person wants to work in with you.  as far as intensity, sets and reps thats irrelevant, since that doesnt affect you and if it does you're way too sensitive.  the only thing that matters is the weights and on machines they're easily changeable, plus you're going to change your weight anyway for each set.

i ask how many sets a guy has left if its the only one of that in the gym ( power cage squat rack leg press) because then i have to re-adjust my work oput plan i had for that day. i always wait till after their set and if it looks like they are gettin psyched up for next set i will wait till they finish that one. and if i am using the one only of whatever it is i will let them work in depending on who they are and as long as we arent changing any wieghts, unless its a machine and its just a pin. plates no way
