I always go by the rule if I finish I put the weights back and thats the que to anyone that I am done and they can take over, I do the same when looking for the next exercise myself. If everybody did that it would work much better.

exactly. and when machines etc are loaded still, you look around for someone using it only to find out they just didnt put the weights back

obviously you're doing the same muscle group if the other person wants to work in with you.  as far as intensity, sets and reps thats irrelevant, since that doesnt affect you and if it does you're way too sensitive.  the only thing that matters is the weights and on machines they're easily changeable, plus you're going to change your weight anyway for each set.

it does affect me. and i dont pyramid so im not changing weights anyway.

i dont take that long. but some recreational lifter is not going to come between me and my animal training. no way. no how!

the gym is a warzone. everybody need to know their place. big dogs go first. others have to wait in line!

when you let people work in with you, next they wanna work in with you in the shower. dont say i didnt warn you!
There is an inverse relationship between 'animal traning' and post count. FAIL.

Hate to break the news to you, Bluto, but you ARE a "recreational lifter."

-  You will never make a living bodybuilding
-  You are not a professional athlete
-  You are not a magazine coverboy or model
-  You do not make money off of bodybuilding

YOU are A RECREATIONAL LIFTER.

Hope this helps.

I always thought that the people who can't let someone work in doesn't have enough focus.  Why would it matter to you what someone else does while you are waiting?  It is not your bench.  I would agree that if you see a guy with 4-5 plates per side on bench, you let him go about his business and move somewhere else, but most machines and free standing benches by the dumbbells are so easy to change around, who cares if someone works in.

So here is the question.  Why would you be such a dick?  I'm not they type to go asking if I can work in with someone because I like to focus when I am there, but if someone else wants to, so be it, it really is not that big of a deal.  Also, what is with you and showers?  They are not even close to being the same thing.

i am being nice. by leaving them alone. not disturbing them. not breaking their concentration. not being a possible reason for them to fail on their attempt to set a new PR etc

maybe you should do the same?

I agree with you Bluto, I hate it when people bother me in the gym. I usually work out in the morning so its not a big deal, but if I go in the evening every asshole who I may or may not have met over the last 20 years wants to come up to me and talk. ::) If I am drunk and at the bar, then come say hello, not when I am at the gym. And I am not even going to start with the overweight counter girl who tries to take up 5 minutes of my morning trying to show me her Myspace pictures everyday. >:(
