The Partial Rep
« on: August 14, 2007, 04:40:09 PM »
When you do reps to failure, do you incorporate any of the following:

Partial Rep
Hold the contraction for longer than usual
Spotter assist to full rep

Feelings on this about benefits etc?  My routine has just gotten STALE and I want to mix it up.  I'm going to start by changing up the excercises I use to hit each muscle but i'm seeking other options as well.

Do you think having some days training HIT and others low reps/high weight (assuming conditioned for it / no injuries) would be a good way to mix it up?  Its actually pretty rare I see HIT at my gym, but i've seen it at least twice with preacher curl and seemed to be working for them.

personally i dont do any of that. any time i get a partial rep is when im sometimes not able to complete a full rep, but it's not a goal in itself

I sometimes do partials right at the end if I feel aggressive.
I use "rest pause" as well to get out a few extra reps

I train alone so I don't have a partner for assisted reps.

Yeah, try that.  Whatever you do give it a go for at least a month and see what happens but stick to it!  There's plenty of advice on this board for alternate splits and routines.

Partial reps are great to help extend a set after no more full repos can be performed.

Also try doing a full rep, followed by a half rep and repeat until you reach failure...............to ugh way to train and works great on certain exercises/bodyparts.
