Robinson vs. Weider
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:52:54 AM »
Whatever happened to that suit Robby filed against Joe Weider for Weider using Robby’s body in his Weider icon?  I remember reading about the suit in the LA times more than a year ago.

Great question, Bay! I'll be seeing Jeff Everson prior to or during the Olympia and I'll do my best to get an answer unless someone posts the accurate details here before then.

Does anyone here have the two pix side by side of Robby and Weider striking that same pose?   I remember seeing it, either in that LA Times article or posted here a long while ago.

The logo appears to be a drawing, not a photograph.  That means it could be anybody...  Robinson's suit didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell.  He probably ran out of money and his lawyers bailed, since there's no way they would take on that loser of a case on contingency.

Funny thing about Robbies claim, is that you can see pics of Joe Weider striking that pose back in the 40's....long before RR ever came along...what a joke.

That's an illustrated picture... How is that proof that Weider struck that pose?

That's true but Robby was asked to pose for the sculptor (from what I recall reading a while back).

Even if that's true...he was used as a model, nothing more.

I reccon the thing was settled out of court.

If you ask me RR got off easy.  Joe has USED many other pro's bodies in far more degrading fashion.

How do you know Joe Weider didn't build a time machine in the 50's that could travel to the 70's and base his image on Robbie 20 years before his time?

What's your opinion on this:

Joe: First the sculptor did me. He did my head and body. I weighed 215 then. But he wasn't a good sculptor, and didn't know anatomy. Even though he had a picture he just couldn't get the definition right. How many sculptors know definition? They don't know an anterior deltoid from a pec. He made my body smooth. Now, granted, I wasn't in hard training, not on drugs, not doing any of that stuff. I was just an in-shape, busy man. You gonna pose for definition under those circumstances, especially with an inept sculptor? The easiest thing for me to do was get Robbie to pose and show him how to add some definition that I didn't have because I wasn't in rock-hard shape. With Robbie, he was able to see the definition and contours, and was able to add to the sculpture.

thanks for finding this.  models pose for sculptors all the time.  models don't pwn the results.  RR probably received compensation for his time and should be satisfied with that.

Even if it is a photo, it is always the photographer that owns the rights of the pics, unless he signs off the rights.
