Some people – myself included – often mistake sacroiliac problems (since the sacrum is so close to the lumbar region) or even hip problems & pelvic rotations as being a “back” problem.
Most chiro’s can easily and effectively fix those.
I would still recommend chiropractic consultation.
It took me a while to find the right one, but a good chiropractor is definitely worth it.
I’ve been amazed at some of the things mine has been able to treat.
As far as decompression, I’ve found that different chiro’s have differing opinions on the issue. For example, decomp. was a really big “issue” that my former Dr. “pitched” at his office. He had all of the special equipment, informational literature and videotapes that played nonstop in the waiting room. He may have really believed in it, or maybe it was just a bullshit gimmick to make more $$.
I asked my current chiropractor about spinal decompression (in a different context) just last week. He told me that, with rare exception, there is no need – at least for me – for fancy decomp. therapy.
And I trust his information and opinion because his adjustments are more effective and last longer than the other guy’s.
