If you deplete too greatly or for too long of a period of time and then try to "carb up hard", you won't be able to fill out in time. Also, the huge insulin spike caused by "carbing up hard" will ensure that you retain water while still remaining flat.

My philosophy is I have no comprehension of timing it wrong or dropped my water to soon or didn't fill out in time.
My deal is your ready or your not. People say you can't hold conditioning I say BS. You should look like you want on stage two weeks out. The show should just be another day w/ some MINOR adjustments.
I never carb my athletes up that much maybe 50-100 extra day before maybe none. Hardly ever stop drinking water. just my philosophy. Most people that say they are holding water or flat are just still FAT.
Nobody is wrong just different ways of doing it.

I hear ya, and I hope my post didn't come across as implying that he didn't. I was just wanting to clarify that you can be both flat and have water in your subcutaneous for a multitude reasons.

I was just letting you know Toopowerful knows his stuff, maybe to much sometimes. Sometimes all that scientific knowledge gets in the way of fish broccoli and cardio if you know what I mean.

It was a tough show.  I think you looked pretty damn good, just need to be a little harder.  Anyone who has competed has had their off days.

i have to agree with everyone else when they say you should be a lightheavy.  you looked great at the arnold and you could have been even more conditioned there.  You did beat me there but I'm coming for you next year.   :)  keep working hard dude and don't let the quest for size ruin your shape and look, thats your bread and butter.

I am well aware of this.  The insulin spike should be utalized EARLY like Wed or Thurs, by Fri your slin sensativity SHOULD be lowered due to carbing up days earlier.  By then, you should be FULL and lowering carbs to insure you drop that last bit of water (more complex than this but you get the gist)

This is a given, and im not talkin a LOT of muscle... but just a little.  You have to err on the low side as your bodyfat gets extremely low to get that last bit of fat off.....If you would steer clear because of this, you must not be prepared to get in insane condition.  I dont know of a single person who wouldnt let go of a SMALL amount of muscle in order to get SHREADED... and sure theres a way to hold ALL or gain a little bit of muscle and get shreaded.... its called UP THE DOSES OF EVERYTHING INCLUDING FAT BURNERS... would you rather your heath and a little muscle loss.... or just wreck your body and make sure you dont lose any muscle?  ;)

Good advise. I am also not a big fan of carbing up and or depleting and I never cut water. I do have some things that I do, but  they are subtle and they vary depending on the person.

Chris no one can flame on you, because you look better than most people. It is hard to move up a weight class and this show was stacked deep.  Train hard and I think your will make a great HW.  Peace

this is not right,,he can still get into the top 10 in nationals competing as a heavy weight,,the main trick with a physiqe like his is to get down to 197lb then for the weigh in drink some water weigh in as a heavy and do the heavy as a light heavy,,the heavy weight class is a mess when it comes to strcuture and symetry and a light heavy with genetic repond to hormones and training such as his will win that class

i always claim that for best way to win your pro card is at a "light heavy weight" competing in the heavys,,

got to bring up the chest other wize even coming middle weight wont help
