I don't think its about race in the sense that people assume that they behave the way they do because of race or at least not everyone here feels that way.  I think it more has to do with the double standard.  Whoopi Goldberg says that what vick did is understandable because it is part of the culture he was raised in which is completely ridiculous because that kind of logic justifies anything.  Its just as easy to justify the behavior of a redneck racist from the south using that same logic.  He grew up around it so I guess that excuses his behavior. Obviously he knew it was wrong considering he didn't publicize his activities and held his dog fighting in the secluded confines of his home.  So what is actually  happening is that Vick inst being allowed to be judged on his merits and personality considering that his lawyer and members of the black community made race an issue.  What is frustrating is that race is used as a weapon by SOME minorities to excuse actions and shield themselves from criticism therefore making it impossible to judge them by their actions.  It forces the issue to not be about the actions of the person but about defending yourself from the accusations of racism.
