15 % is already pretty fat, you should never exeed that

but I don't recommend "bulking" for naturals

Don't bulk...aim for a steady 10-12 % BF range and eat a bit more..oh yeah, train hard. That's it and The T-nation article is a good one, read it.

BB.com blows and is only good for the supplement section. Read this before you bulk.

its probably better for his mental well-being anyway ;D

you and I both know anyone claiming to be 15% is more like 25%+

most people would be surprised to see how ripped 10% looks

as a lifetime natty I'll weigh in on this.  Bulking while natural is a waste of time, if you're really low enough in BF that you can see an "8-pack" then that's a good thing.  Aceto wrote that at about 10% BF you're in the best position for BB and I agree with this.  keep you're BF low, don't worry about "bulking", just up you're calories a little and go by the mirror instead of the scale.

I've been reading about bulking, and I want to do it.  I want to put on 25 pounds over 6 months or so.  I've been reading the diets at bbing.com and I am learning a lot.

I'm currently 170 pounds at 5'9, in my early 20s.  About 12 to 15% bodyfat - 8 pack of abs shows, serratus shows, but I'm certainly not diced.

My question is - should I diet down 5 or 10 pounds of fat, THEN start the bulk?  I've read that I'll get more cuts which makes the bulk more effective.  Or, do I just start now, and try to avoid going over 20%?  For that matter, what is the highest % I should allow myself to hit, while on a bulk?  Thanks!
I would. Then your mass will be quality mass vs. the usual bloated water retained look.

I'm natural and my goal forever has been to hit 200..  I decided to bulk and didn't want to get fat so all it ate was clean diet type food, just a shit ton of it... i had to force myself to eat so much but i hit 201 for about three days lol...  soon as i ate normal again i went back to 195-197.. Shit was miserable eating so much!

15% is already a bit too high.  You may want to have a trainer at your gym actually check your bodyfat percentage for you so you have a place to start from.  I would say that I wouldn't worry about cutting down specifically in terms of trying to lose weight.  If you are able to add 6-10 pounds of lean weight within the next 6 months, that by itself will bring your bodyfat percentage down a couple of percent.  9-10% is going to have you looking pretty ripped and is not too hard to stay at if you're even a little disciplined, anything much lower will be tough to maintain for a long period of time.

trying to make yourself feel better fattyboy?

no one said you should stay under 10% bf all year around, there is no point in bulking up and being over 15% fat or so..even that is a bit too high. specially for a natural avoiding too much dieting is a good thing..and if you can keep your bodyfat at 12-13% year around (or 10-13) thats a good thing. also staying pretty lean doesnt mean you have to eat "clean" all the time. it just means you dont have to have a caloric surplus that is larger than 500 calories more than you daily caloric need inorder to gain muscle.

too many people go on insane bulks just to see the scale go up and be able to gorge themselves..but most of the weight gain will be fat. they lack the patience and they dont realize as a natural you wont be gaining 30lbs of muscle year after year..which leads to unreasonable expectations...and in the end walking around fat year around and never seeing the muscles below all that fat. as a natural you wont be gaining much more than 3-6lbs per year after the first year or so (if you trained somewhat correctly with adequate nutrition). being fat wont change that fact.

at the same time you should not be obsessed with food (like waddy is for example) inorder to stay lean, as it in reality doesnt have to be that much of an effort to stay relatively lean if you use common sense and have a bit of knowledge.

edit: just read the t-nation article...VERY good article ( i been saying point for point the same things to people who have asked me about "bulking" that he writes about in the article). a must read for all you fatties.
