Rest Periods between sets
« on: September 18, 2007, 12:43:00 PM »
Do you think that the amount of rest periods between sets will impact one's growth or lack thereof while on gear?  Some say several minutes for larger muscles groups when going heavy and some say 45 seconds between sets is the best for growth.  I am looking add some more muscle.

not as much as they would allow you to think....take a minute to a minute and a half on heavy sets...anymore than that and you are wasting time.....

that amount of time should be sufficient to recover enough for another max load....

concentrate on diet....it will help add mass much more than worrying about rest periods ;D

Thanks!  I was told that to grow you need 8-12 reps with 45 seconds rest periods.  I was using lower reps, 5-8 and resting up to 3-4 minutes.  I made good gains doing this but I think I have peaked out at  all my major compound lifts, so I think the higher rep scheme might be a good change.  But getting use to the 45 second break between sets has been a killer for me.  You cannot do the same amount of weight when only resting a short period of time between sets.

Amount of rest has impact on lifting heavy again after a hard set.
Heavier weight, longer rest.

Consistently Lift Heavier weight, with same form = some new beef.

rep/ set changes are always good. i change my workouts as much as every 4 weeks to keep it fresh. right now im doing 2 workouts....one week i go heavy, compounds...low reps  then the next week i do  completely different exercises, lighter weight, higher reps and drop sets

im always sore...and always ready to hit it because its different

Adjusting rest times is another way of shocking the system into growth.
