if he knows what he was doing with his nutrient ratio's he is eating plenty.
most people eat way too much carbs, way too often.
yes, carbohydrates are ABSOLUTELY VITAL to building muscle. BUT, there are only needed at certain times. First thing in the morning, pre-training, post training. Other than that you have no use for carbohydrates. They DO NOT build muscle, they provide energy for a workout, can help put the body into an anabolic state quickly, and post training help with the uptake of proteins into the muscle.  so...assuming that you need no more than 60 grams of carbs in the morning, and 60 grams post training..and maximum 100 grams pre-training...thats a maximum real need of only 880 calories. leaving almost 3000 calories for proteins. assuming that he will be also consuming some healthy fats...lets make that 2700 calories of protein. So, eating 3800 calories would allow for protein intake of up to 700 or so grams of protein... which is an absolutely crazy amount of protein to eat.

sorry for stating the obvious here guys...but alot of posts talked about that being a small amount of food. its definitely alot of food if your eating right.

if your eating wrong, it could just be a half dozen jamba juices.

700 grams of protein is 2800 calories dummy, not 3800.

You obviously eat a very low carb diet you mental midget.

The brain needs 130 grams of carbs per day to function properly.

That's 520 calories right there.

Nutrition scientists generally recommends anywhere between 40-60% carbs in the diet, which is a big spectrum, but it means you would at least eat 300 grams of carbs if you were on a 40/30/30 (high-protein-moderate carb) diet.

Ie, 1200 calories of carbs.

If you would eat 50% of your calories from carbs, the calories would be 1500, and you would eat 400 grams of carbs every day if on a 3000 calorie per day diet.

teh human body NEEDS zero carbs!
there are tribes of eskimos in alaska that consume ZERO carbs everyday of their life. and they statistically have much better body compositions naturally than almost every other tribe/culture on the planet.

exactly.

it is commonly recommended that people only consume .5 grams of protein per pound of body weight.
yes...we should listen to these people.
full body workouts three times a week as well.
yes, we should listen to the main stream authorities on this one.

SF....I think he was saying that utilizing the values stated (carbs and protein) that when factored in to the whole 3800 calories he would have to eat 700gms of protein.

I should've mentioned that these are sports nutrition scientists perhaps.

But I guess that don't matter much?

What's your current caloric intake J?

We have it calculated out as:

2265 cal.

Protein - 334 (58.98%)
Carbs - 70 (12.36%)
Fats - 83   (32.98%)

I dropped from 3010kcal before I changed to this and I'm dropping fast but not losing any muscle.

I tried a low carb diet but I couldnt do it for too long....energy wasnt there, joints ached, had major headaches! And I felt like I was getting smaller. It got rid of excess water and helped me get cut but it also made me lose muscle mass as well....

Im going to try it again though to see how cut I can get but I am not going to do it long term...

Most eskimos are fat, they're getting carbs and fats from somewhere.

The brain needs 130 grams of carbs per day to function properly.

Not exactly, the brain specifically needs glucose and in the absence of carbohydrates can get it's daily glucose requirement from a process called glucogenesis.  Glucogenesisis the production of glucose in the liver from non-carbohydrate precursors such as glycogenic amino acids from animal protein and fat. Specifically the formation of carbohydrates from protein and fats. With the glycerol portion of fat, the majority of amino acids from proteins can be easily converted into carbohydrates. This is why there is no biological need for carbohydrates. The body will make the glucose (sugar) it needs from protein and natural fat.

This would explain why pro bodybuilders seem to have water on the brain.

You're wrong.

It's ketones. And ketogenesis.

Glycogenesis is something entirely different.

You being a prep expert should know that, no?

Ok.

First off, it's not called glucogenesis, it's glycogenesis. But that's just a spelling error.

Then, the process you describe is fairly accurate. For ketogenesis.

Do you follow?

Glycogenesis, as the word suggests, occurs when glucose synthesizes into glycogen.
