In all honesty I would say go wiht what's natural. Unless you're some splay'd out goofball or pidgeon toe'd weirdo, why would you worry about your toe position.

Just unrack, get in your stance, and squat!

go with what feels best and lets you use the heaviest poundages. (in general)

sometimes you have to work around injuries tho...

but try to avoid extremely wide stance when doing squats for example as it doesnt hit quads the best. (if your a bodybuilder)

I think with straight toes it hits the outer part of the quads more. It feels alot more when doing that rather than with pointing your toes outwards.

nope. depends on what feels best, and for most people that would be keeping your toes slightly out, eventho straight feels like it hits the "sweep" more.

Always keep the feet straight,,feet positioning does nothing for legpress or squats,,in fact ,,its dangerous.

I would say go with what feels more natural to you. Remeber we don't all walk the same way so why squat with heavy weight on your back the same way?

no, there is no always. you should use what feels the best and for most that is slightly pointing your toes out. seems to (sometimes) protect knees abit too..compared to feet straight.

To avoid injury, keep your feet straight. Bending or pointing the toes is not the right way. Just because an exercise feels good naturally, doesnt mean he is doing it right. You can have a serious injury if you dont do those 2 exercises by the book. And the book says to keep your feet straight. You dont want to come back here in a week because you threw your back out,,stay straight.

For squats, I use shoulder width stance, with feet pointed a little outwards. Leg press, Ill put my feet at the top of each corner with my feet also pointed a little outwards.

Vary the foot stance on the press, but on squats...not so much

i sat next to a scout for the yankees on a plane one time.. he told me when hes rating players the first thing he looks at is the angle of their feet when walking and doing agility drills.. he said its the best way to tell if someone is an athlete, and weather or not they will get an injury..he said their feet have to be perfectly strait, otherwise you have some type of an imbalance.. i thought this was bullshit at first, but its how he makes a living, and the yankees are known for their scouting young players.. ever since he told me that ive been very conscience of making sure my feet are always pointing forward no matter what im doing.

Naturally it would depend on the width of your stance on either exercise. I almost always advise clients to splay the toes slightly so as to protect the patella tendons but we're all different and some people would not benefit as much from that so we go straight with the toes.

I always feel that feet straight hits the quads more and feet pointed out hits the groin, glutes, and hams more since i can go lower. When I do squats with my toes slightly out for a few weeks it seems that i find myself walking with my toes slightly out and when i do them with my feet straight i walk with my feet straight anybody else ever have this happen?...lol maybe its just me

I think it varies from person to person. For example, when i squat, i use a toes pointed out stance. I find that doing free weight squats with feet straight and a relatively narrow stance is quite difficult. But when i leg press, i use a narrow stance with feet straight. Either way, i don't really feel too much difference, though close stance with feet straight i feel targets the outer quad. Either way, as mentioned, try all different ones.
No doubt about it...

I have been doing straight toes, medium stance for legpress and wide stance with toes pointed outwards for squats. I feel this hits both sides of the quads well...
straight toes=outside pointed out=inside

Pointed out really hits the teardrop well. I only did legs with straight pointed toes before and i have definitely seen improvement.

What about how far down on the legpress should you go?

I mean i can go down to the point that my heels come off the leg press platform. My question is.. When my heels come off the platform is it doing any damge or even working anything. Should i only go as far down as far my flat foot will go? Or go all the way until i'm on my toes?

Stand on a box, jump off and stick the landing, that's essentially the position your feet should point.

Yeah i know what you mean. Just go as low as possible whilst keeping feet flat on the platform. No matter how heavy you go.

By the way, if your the dreamer i think you are, hows the diet going?
