the thing is there were a ton of people around so even if vince thoguht he would get killed he still coulda thrown a punch and it would have gotten broken up or at least he could have spit back. exactly, Derek is a normal height, normal bone structured guy who has a little extra soft juice muscle, it's not like he's some 6'8" 375 pound NFL lineman or WWE wrestler.
