10x25 Squats burn
« on: October 20, 2007, 04:41:05 PM »
I have a 25 pound dumbell that I keep at work so I can curl a little bit, do squats, weighted situps etc..just to get some kind of exercise since I work 13.5 hours a day in front of a computer.  Well anyway...

I have found my "real" leg workout has been making good progress ever since I have incorporated doing the following.

25 reps  slow ass to floor squats holding a 25 lb weight. Back as straight as possible.  No lockout at top of movement.  I do this for 10 sets with no more than 60 seconds rest in between.

I originally did this to make a co-worker so sore he couldn't walk...lol.  But I sure in the hell was sore also since I usually do squats 1 day a week only 4 sets. Plus it is a great cardio workout.  I swear by the time of my last 2 or 3 or 4 sets I am lightheaded and gasping for breath and sweating my balls off.

I am up to 250 reps total now but started with 150 then 200 now 250.  Been doing this for 2 months.

Sunday - "Real" Leg day
Thursday -  high rep squat day

My not be challenging for the super human beasts of getbig but I am a small fry...lol

Have your legs progressed development wise?

Seems like a waste other than to build extra endurance as the resistance is too light to build any size.

personally,I`d just bust ass on my "real" leg day once a week.

wes is right....

if you like that high rep, "feel the burn" thing, on your next leg day, try some high rep leg presses..

try 6 or more sets of 20 reps with a weight where the last 5 or so reps are a real bitch.

i find these better for building mass than heavy squats.

Here`s a good high rep scenario for leg presses:

1 plate a side=50 reps
2 plates a side=40 reps
3 plates a side=30 reps
4 plates a side=20 reps
5 plates a side=10 reps

Or use whatever poundage scheme is appropriate for your own leg strength.

I do it mainly to get my heart rate up and not to build mass while I am wasting time at work. Can't really jog in an office.  But I have notice more of a surge in strength over the last month in all my leg exercises where as I was getting stuck for what seemed like months before.  Maybe coincidence?
