If you want high performance for VFX go with Boxx.     Boxxtech.com

I just got this one.

It really helps to go to a store and see them all in person.  That TZ looks really sweet but it's a little on the small side.  I don't like them huge but I also want them to have a little substance to them as well.  That's where the SZ series fits in.  Aside from Apple I think Sony makes the best looking machines on the market, and I'm assuming you must want a PC as opposed to a Mac.

Go with an Apple . . . they can run $7000 with all the bells and what not, but no need to worry about viruses. They are excellent

All the Macs are beautiful but I still wasn't ready to become a full-blown "Mac person," for whatever reason.  :-\

Jeff,

I got a Sony Vaio years ago and had nothing but problems with it.  Constant crashes and freezes.  Do you have this problem with your machine?

This is my 4th VAIO and I've loved them all.

I took the plunge last year and got a Macbook after having only used PCs my whole life.  It's a great machine; and even though I don't have it configured this particular way, you can have Windows on it as well.

I got that one for my admin.  She loves it.  However, I need a light/portable laptop that does not compromise performance.

Yeah, the fan on mine too was LOUD.  It was on almost ALL the time, which isn't a good thing because it means the comp. is pretty much always overheated. :-\

Leaning toward the Sony VAIO TZ150N.  Although I've read some concerning reviews regarding bloatware...

It's nothing really....I felt the same way, but the learning curve was only a couple days to get used how things are arranged.  Once you're familiar with it, you realize just how simply they work.  Plus, I've surfed so much porn without antivirus protection, and it still works like a charm!  :)   Remember, you can always put Windows on it..!

Try an apple, 13-inch Macbook for a decent $2,000 this is what you get-

Specifications:

    * 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
    * 200GB Serial ATA @ 4200 rpm
    * SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    * Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter
    * Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
    * Apple USB Modem
    * AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook - Auto-enroll
    * AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth

Perhaps the most profound design element of MacBook is what it lacks: bulk. A mere 1.08 inches thin and weighing in at only 5.1 pounds, MacBook cuts a slim profile on any desk (or in any backpack or briefcase). And since MacBook is sure to become your constant companion, a durable polycarbonate shell keeps it ready for the rough and tumble of everyday life. Now that’s grace under pressure.

Whether you’re working on your next Keynote presentation or watching a movie before you catch a flight, every document, video, and photo on your MacBook will look sharp on the glossy 13.3-inch widescreen display. With pixel-perfect 1280-by-800 resolution, it’s great for viewing and working with media.

The Look:

The Dell looks pretty sweet. The Sony goes for about 700-800 more. I don't really see what you're getting for the extra cost.

Well it sounds like you're looking to be sold on the TZ, but I'm telling you man, you'd better go and check one out in person before you commit to it because they ARE pretty small; I don't know, I was afraid I'd feel a little cramped typing on it.  It IS the best looking machine on the market right now though, by far.

Have you checked epinions and done googles on "Review Sony VAIO TZ150N"?

I would only use it while traveling.  The rest of the time I would be using my office or home PC.  I'm starting to think MAC...
