Full Body Splits
« on: November 26, 2007, 06:33:02 AM »
Iv just started doing full body splits the last couple of weeks. just 1 set on each body part... monday, wed, fri. if i am still sore from the previous workout i will do very light sets to keep the blood pumping through without putting stress on the muscle.
has anyone tried full body splits? any opinions on them???

I did a full body split for my first few months of training. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I did two exercises for large body parts (legs, chest, back) and one set for smaller ones(arms, shoulders, calves). If you are doing it make sure you use compound movements to maximixe growth. I think full body splits are good and if you are getting results stick with it. I think after six months to a year most people do switch over to a more conventional split.

Perhaps look into HST training. Similar to full body workout, but focuses on increasing the weight and using different reps (15,10,5).

Takes a bit of time to get it worked and written out, but its fun and is said to work for anyone.
No doubt about it...

THe only time I have heard of full body splits is the week before a show other than that it depends on your goals and what you are striving for.

I do it all the time.  The most important thing is how the exercises flow into one another-everything should be a pre-exhaust for the next thing, or a post exhaust for the last.  I'll give you an example of what I sometimes do:

                         Leg XT
                         Legg Press
                         Leg Curl
                         Deadlift
                         Superman
                         Reverse Fly
                         Stiff Arm Pulldown
                         Negative Chin
Bicep Curl(if I really feel like it's necessary
                         DB Fly
                         Bench Press
                         Shoulder Press
                         Pressdown

All in a row, all to failure, no rest inbetween.
