NPC Excalibur: Alex Azarian Why?????????
« on: December 02, 2007, 12:30:11 AM »
Did you compete at the excalibur??

You placed second to a guy who claims natural (albeit might be untrue) status.

Did you just step onstage for the heck of it, or did u expect to win??

Im just curious, I consider u a bro, so dont take offense to this.

Don't most people wait longer in between shows? Not knocking, just wondering.

In Alex's defense he looked awesome onstage and could've won easily. Striated and veiny chest, dry to the bone. Greats abs too... slightly weak on legs but that's it..

Could've gone either way honestly. Lots of booing...  :o

Hi everyone
I jumped into the show, I have never really competed as a middleweight before but wanted to give it a shot, since i was in shape from the nationals. Never really trained or planned on doing the contest, but wanted to test the waters since, im going to be competing as a welterweight, which is from 154lbs to 165.

At the Excaliber they only had a middlweight class that went form 154-176. But I knew I could be competetive and do really good. The one problem is i ran into a really good Light heavyweight, whom I have always liked and actually given alot of advise about conditioning etc to him.

He always had great size, symetry, etc. with good proportions but conditioining wasnt great.  But good enough to win several overalls. Check out his contest resume.  So, he dropped down to 176 and looked great. He was hard, dry and looked great. And my legs were really ripped, but they were hard to hold up next to his huge wheels. Thats really were he naied me. He has the legs of a lightheavy.

I didn't even think I had a chance against him. I weighed 162lbs. But I battled hard, and gave it my all. Untill the night show, there was no clear winner amongst the fans or our friends etc. I think, we both did great. it was a great test for me. I am now a welterweight and it took a long while to figure it out, but thats were I need to be. I did great against this awesome middleweight and the rest of the class to place second, but I will be competing at the nationals as a welter.

For me, I think i did the best I could that night. I really did, but no excuses here guys, but Im tired! i really am. I have been dieting and in shape so long, my body is tired. I feel it, It was a long ride for me this year. I was ready a few weeks before nationals and here it is a few weeks after.

My legs feel like they are getting worn from the cardio, diet etc. I need some food, and some reast. I stayed in shape all year and dieted a long long time.

Check out the resume of Robert Harris, hes a great competitor and will do some serious damage as a middleweight in the future.  he is a great competitor, but I would love to compete against him in the future. He outweighed me by 15lbs but I would like to go against him again with just six or seven lbs and see what happens. Thanks guys for looking out for me.  Alex a

thanks, Wes and Noel. Just my luck i did run into a solid competitor. I mean this guy was solid. The guy weighed 176 on the nose and he was really lean. I couldnt find a weakness on this guy, other than he was not sickly conditioned.  I was 162 just a bit shorter and denser so i didnt look too small next to him. I do like the comparison pics though.

I would love to have had just a few pounds  to even things out.  This show should have had a welter class with the numbers in the middleweights topping near 20 the last couple years. The Los Angeles Championship has a welter and when I won the class in 06 there were 8 of us.

The Cal has a welter class and there were less than 8.  I will be in the welter class up to 165  at nationals next year so its highly unlikely we will do battle again since the guy is really a lightheavyweight, although I would like to meet in the middle down the road.

Robert is a good guy, A US Marine and well liked, he lives in San Diego and trained and got ready to do this show, for me, it was a test and part of my  winding down from a very long long diet and prep. I never intended on doing the show till after nats went unexpectedly bad for me.

My feet are sore and need rest. But I will be back in the gym, working on bringing up my arms, legs and just adding on some mass.  I would like to add about 12lbs of muscle in the next 2 years, but slow and quality muscle.

Calling it like I saw it Alex. I had you first. You're only months away from being unbeatable at the Nats.

Man this commentary from Alex A is great; that's a bodybuilder's bodybuilder; that is the SPORT of bodybuilding right there.  Lots of strategy in his stuff, he's so precisely dialed that he has time to think of all this, to consider this stuff.  Most guys just diet down as low as they can get before the show, go onstage wherever they fit, and then hit the buffets...not Alex...Alex sits and calibrates his throttle for a month or so then tells us his feet are sore so he thinks he'll rest for a bit.  Just incredible.

hey Alex and McFarland. Thanks for having the faith bros!  I actually did 30 minutes of cardio this afternoon before lunch.  I woke up at 600AM  I wanted to sleep untill about 800am after coming home from the show at midnight, taking a nice hot shower but my little daughter whom I did not see all day woke me up early. I was cool with that.

My fast food binge consisted of 2 steak tacos from Taco Bell, no cheese, diet coke and some Sun Chips.   I really thought I would eat some mm's, recees, and some other crap, but it didnt happen.

I ate lots of flavored oats and rice throughout the day. Plus my diet consists of so many good carbs and food, I dont feel a need to binge. I thought this Sunday my wife, daughter and I would go out to eat, but we didnt. For breaksfast, i ate some yokes with my whites, some turkey sausage and toast. That was nice.  Lunch was a clean, steak and rice meal. Some proetin powder pudding in between meals and dinner was more steak and rice. Night time was some protein and rice cakes.

Im getting ready for my next leg workout so I can start adding some mass to my quads.  Some front squats, hacks will be added to bring up some size. I need to bring up my arms and posterior delts as well, not into site injections or anything crazy. It might be slow, but it is on my mind!

I talked to each judge after the show. Actually after pre judging several came up to me.   And to me, their advise is golden. Win or lose, i always want their feedback. It has been a  great year bodybuilding year, despite my non stellar placings. Win or lose, i always, take the time to get feedback from the judges.

I will probably take a few days off for rest soon. Mentally i dont need it! im on fire. I am going to work out Monday, that is for sure. but physically my feet are sore, and probably will take the rest soon, but not for long. Rest for me is for a reason, like cheat meals, they are for a certain reason, they are part of the prep not just to do because you should.  I do it, when I feel the intense need to do it, to help myself

Rest and enjot\y my friend...nice job at the show, gave us the info we needed to take it up a notch. You more than held your own despite giving up 15 lbs. to the winner...take a well deserved rest.
