Joe....I really think you could (or should) have place higher if the timing was 100%

I don't find you having a gut....but the 3/4 twisting shot looks like lack of muscle control

So if you look at my hams and glutes in my back double bi shots, can you say the same thing....I'd have to say it looks better when compared and spiked, check out the guys next to me and base your decision on that......BTW, looks like someone kind screwed with that pic, just another hater. Enhance the pic and post the worst one...thats ok! Hey, it was my last show, I'm gonna have fun with these pics, they'll probably be the last ones taken like this, what have I got to lose? But one thing for sure, the judging was based STRICTLY on conditioning and nothing else, the other criteria was thrown out the window.

your problem is you make excuses for everything and blame everyone else for your placing; insulin, judging, steriods etc...

if you were a man and admitted you had to be better conditioned and stop throwing blame around you wouldnt be getting flamed on here like this

I think you looked great but not "zane like" and your excuses make you look pathetic----be a man and humble up and you would be surprised how people would treat you here

Congrats on doing the show Joe.  Just the mere fact that you made it up there after so long is pretty impressive and considering that you had that health scare with your stepson, good for you in making it either way.

Now, the bad..

You weren't dry/cut enough.  I suspect that with another week you could have hit a better mark.

Your legs looked horrible man.  They were under trained and certainly looked as if you didn't train them properly (Right poundages/Exercises).

You have glutes, train them.

Summary:
Everything else looked "ok", but I think with more time to train, heavier poundages and maybe a better overall routine, you could have made a bigger splash.

In being fair, no one else in that contest looked that good either way.  I think you should have placed second at best and 4th at worst.

The best looking physique is probably (Starting from the left) the fourth guy in this picture:

I know Joe is an avid republican.  I know that republicans blame liberals for everything that's wrong with the world, even though the republicans have been in control of the country, and thw rodl, for the last 7 years.

is this just an example of Joe blaming everyone else but himself?

Why do you say it like it's a bad thing? I thought that was what you were going to bring to the table - crisp, ripped, separated muscle without too much 'insulin bulk'.

Had you been the most ripped competitor on stage you would have complained that the judges awarded soft insulin bloated mass, instead of crisp conditioning.

Those are some pretty good comparsion shots. Joe was right about the show being judged pretty much on conditioning, of course most shows are and to a degree should be. From what I understand there was one point separating Joe from 5th place. Since the top 5 had better conditioning it goes to show how good Joe is in terms of shape and symmetry. Givin more time Joe would have cracked the top 5 easily. Although more time would have most likely put him into a different weight class.

One thing is for sure and that is Joe dieted very hard and for the shape he was in 16 weeks out came a hell of a long way in a short amount of time. Anyone who can do this deserves props regardless of who they are and whatever hoopla that may go on here on GB.  :)

Aaaahh dude, now you're just flat out lying or haven't read my posts. Show me a post where I complained about my placing? And while we're at it, show me a post where I said I had great conditioning? I DID admit that my conditioning wasn't great, so please check yourself.

Thanks, that is a great post, constructive critisism with no flaming, now my response,

1. I know I wasn't cut or dry enough, I've admitted from the start.

2. As I've said from the beginning and in many many other posts even from a few months ago, that my leg training was hampered by a torn meniscus and grade 1-2 sprain in my ACL and medial lateral collateral, but I did the best I could, I was too far commited to back out.

3. Training heavy (real heavy) at my age is just a recipe for injuries.

4. I disagree with you on what you thought I should have placed, I thought my placing was fair based on the criteria they were looking for, as I said, I'm happy with my placings. BTW, the 4th guy in that line up is a 5 time World Champion, he has an AWESOME physique and I personally thought he should have won the overall.

Joe is the kind of republican that follows the party the way others follow their favourite sports team.  If the Bush administration started killing babies he would remain a republican...oh wait, they already do that.  :P

Epic lack of critical thinking skills.

It's true though, you are a stereotype.  I can basically tell you exactly what your opinions are on everything without even knowing them, just based on the surface level information that you've revealed about yourself.

The problem with people like you is that you are dangerous for society.  The mentality of just doing what you are told without questioning authority or thinking about an issue for yourself takes power away from all of us and gives it to a select few.

Hey Coach: a more pedestrian question, if I may. In hindsight, and reflecting on the changes that you, yourself, had, and noticed, between this contest and the last time you competed, what would you have done differently, kept the same?

/no political barbs  :)

I wouldn't have had a 17 year offseason for one. I've always trained hard, but it wasn't until i was about 40 when I decided to compete again, I blew up to about 244 was strong as hell, then I blew out my left pec and tore my right meniscus. After that is when I decided to start bringing my weight down, stop the thought of competing again and just concentrate on my business, unfortunatly is was the huge weight gain in my early 40's along with getting older is the reason why my waist got bigger and my skin loose when I dieted down. If I could have seen into the future, I would have never gained that much and kept alot leaner.

Alot of these guys don't realize (pro's) when they finally retire, get off the gear, they will be facing the same thing exept worse, there's no way around it. It's sucks to see pics of myself then and now and look at the loose skin, but hey, we all get older and I've kept my health. Now, I won't go above 200, I like being this light, I look better, feel better and now that it's over, I'll stay much leaner and that will include, regular BMI tests, eating less and and keeping with my one hour of cardio a day. No need to train like a BBer anymore. Lots of work for no reward.
