Is this a good idea? I've seen it advertised for a "fraction" of the cost to build a wood frame and it's about time to start looking at houses.
hmm.. sounds good so far.Are they more or less resistant to strong winds (tornadoes, hurricanes, etc)??
i already have a smaller one built that survived hurricane rita.if you go on some of these steel building web sites they show you pictures of building that have survived 140+mph winds from hurricane katrina.my only regret is not doing it sooner, here in texas its becoming very popular.bench
If you have some links to recommend I would really appreciate it.
I'd hate to be inside the house should lightning ever strike
Good point.. is this a problem for real?
no it is not a problem, dont believe that shit this is a good site, this is who my contractor goes thru most of the time.http://www.americansteelmfg.com/bench
Excellent, thanks!Although they don't seem to be too popular as single homes, any ideas?
i dont understand what you mean by this.bench
Looking at that site it doesn't look like steel buildings as single family homes are offered or at least common.Do you know of any reason there aren't more steel homes?
ok i get you now, these buildings are not sold as homes,so whenever you build one tell the bank you are building a barn, garage, shop something like that.trust me you still get full home owners insurance.bench
yeah its cool as hell,i am currently in the process of building a 15,000 square foot steel building.i will turn 4000-5000 square feet into living quarters.i got the idea from one of my friends who had the same structure built(concrete, building, labor, electrical, water, drywall, and the rest of that shit)for around $105,000bench
Excuse my ignorance but why don't Americans seem to like brick or concrete houses.I have seen picts after a tornado or hurricane and it all seems like wood. Here we only use brick or concrete house.............. they are more bullet proof
Years ago, they were creating a real BUZZ, but then they kind of faded from the spotlight.I heard they are incredible in a fire tho, and are much less expensive, and better for the environment.
I think it's cost.I personally love brick... Classic elegance. It's just not common in the US as it adds a much higher cost of a new home.
