We have a great divide going on in this country right now (Conservative Republican, Liberal Democrat). Unfortunately its not because of the war in Iraq. It's because of people's ideologies. The war in Iraq is a good excuse for the left to spew their venom on the right. Period.
The sad fact is that most of these people from the United States that are against this war have no idea why they're against it. They just know that they're supposed to be because the influential people in their lives (peers, parents) have told them so. Someone did say the word "LEMMINGS" and that is exactly what we're dealing with presently. People need to learn the facts and do so with an open mind.
Personally i am against this war. I think that we had no business getting into it and think that we dont have the resources to win this type of third generation warfare. But i don't buy into this fairy tail that GW is this monster dictator and he just wants Iraq's oil reserves. Come on people. I know that we know better than that.
If any of these people did their homework on the matter they would know that Bill Clinton wanted a piece of Saddam's ass the entire 8 years he was in office. I can document countless speeches where Clinton spoke of the danger of Saddam and his thugs and the more than reasonable suspicion that he was trying to get WMD's. Bill Clinton wanted to depose Saddam. The Republicans, however, never backed him up. They said CLINTON was a WAR MONGER and he was just trying to "wag the dog" to divert attention away from his scandals. But after 9/11 when GW wanted to go in there all the republicans were like "Hey great idea! You're a genius!". Now all the democrats who had Clintons back for trying to depose Saddam are demonizing GW for the same reason. It's quite sad actually.
The worst part of the whole matter is that no one will admit that they base their opinions on their ideologies, not on the facts. Their hatred becomes their religion. These people truly believe that Bush is evil and that he likes the fact that a lot of people are dying under his watch. We are a country chock full of media babies who gain all their knowledge from political pundits on TV who want to create anger, fear, and hatred on their shows because that is what gets the viewers. Rational, sober analysis does not.
We need to start thinking for ourselves and forming opinions based upon facts and not emotions. I personally believe that we need both liberals and conservatives in this country. They both make us great. But when a liberal or conservative ideology becomes like a religious faith to that person, that person loses all credibility in my mind. They defend positions based upon the letter in parentheses next to the speaker on the TV, not based upon facts. They villify anyone who disagrees with anything that their chosen party promotes, whether or not they are even knowledgable on that issue. I mean the fact is is that GW could get up on the podium during his state of the union, shit in his hand and throw it the people in the front row and there would be thousands of conservative republicans defending him for doing it. Hillary Clinton and John Edwards and John Kerry and plenty of other democrats voted in favor of this war. Now they say that "well GW is just doing it all wrong". And that is a good enough reason for the democrats? i just dont get it.
Read. educate yourself. keep an open mind. I dont know everything about world affairs and there are probably many people on this board more knowledgeable than myself on most of these issues but what i can say is that i am actively searching for the truth. I think that my greatest asset in my search for the truth is that i am not tied down to any particular political ideology. That would only limit me.
