pollux, thanks for the pics! the side-tri shot on the bottom left of the bottom picture is from the photoshoot that i posted above.

as for question regarding the 80 olympia, this is what Gene Mozee, at bbing.com forums, had to say:

Thanks, GoneAway, for posting what Gene said.

And yes, that photo is from the same photoshoot. In fact, the others are by Frank as well.

Funny how that pic to the right is the best triceps shot of Arnold ever.

There is a better one in Bob Kennedy's "Superstars of BB" book (think that's the name...

Arnold was mainly critisized for his lack of leg development.
Legs were not as important back then as they are now.
He broke a leg at some point which I'm sure set him back somewhat.
I've got a few pics where his legs look in proportion and pretty big.
I think with his drive he would have been able with to develop his legs
to todays standards but probably at the expense of a wider/thicker waist.

The legs in the first pic look especially thick.

1st pic: I don't know if this pic for biceps peak will ever be equaled.
It's so peaked it looks like it hurts.

2nd pic: I remember seeing this pic the first time in the mid 80's on
my local gym's wall. They had just gotten it. My workout partner
commented that it looked like he had elephantitis of the muscles..
Which is a good thing!

3rd Pic: Very impressive even by todays standards.

4th pic: 1974 Olympia - Most consider 73 or 74 Olympias as his best.

From what I remember, it was CBS that was filming the 1980 Olympia, not ABC. I doubt that they would refuse to broadcast the contest because Arnold didn't do all the mandatory poses. The only pose he did not do was the side triceps pose. He would do a side bicep pose instead. I think the reason CBS did not broadcast the contest was because there were a lot of people in the audience booing when Arnold won and it was very controversial that he won. I also remember reading that 60 Minutes was going to do an expose on the contest and it's controversy but that never came about. Also, this was not the last Mr. Olympia that was broadcast on TV. The 1982, 1983 and 1984 Mr. Olympia's were all broadcast on national television.

Was he reported to have omitted a couple of poses, or flat out refused to do them?

Ya think he would be arrogant enough to be like Hey, I'm Arnold, if I don't want to do something, you can't make me, and I'll still win! You wear the IFBB blazers, but I'm in charge.  ???

There are those who believe that the '80 Olympia essentially became a protracted publicity trailer for Arnold's burgeoning movie career. I wouldn't be surprised at all. Most of us will never know for sure.

Now... Those very early Arnold pics down there. Those are the kind of pics that remind the rest of us that the great Arnold is human, and that he once looked rather unremarkable. Having said that, it was obvious from very early on that his arms were a bit special.

Between Europe and the States, it's clear that someone took him aside and showed him how to pose, eh?

Those pics, I suspect that they are from 1964, which would make him 16 or perhaps 17. By 1965's contest season, at 18 years of age, he was way better than that, thicker. Have a look at the Mr Europe Junior pics in his autobio.

By the way, note that he's referred to in the copy as a 'model' LOL! And that chair shot reeks of faggotry!

The age discrepancy can be easily explained, I think. Maybe the photographer/mag editor required models to be 18 or older, keep shit above board. We all know Arnold's never been above bending the truth!

Maybe he lied about his name too. Whoever did the write-up thought his name was Arnold Schwanenecker LOL! (Is that German for 'swan-neck'?)

Then in another shot, his name is Schwarzenger!

Yeah...Wag Bennett. The same man who made Exodus Arnold's primary posing music.

Have a look at the Mr Europe Junior pics in his autobio.

Actually, the photos you're referring to in his autobiography are often mislabeled as said contest when in fact they are NOT!

Those photos are from the '66 Best Built Athlete of Europe contest organized by Peter Gottlob and Kraft Sport Revue magazine which can be found in the Nr. 28-30 issues.  ;)

Oh yeah, the Bennetts. Dianne also showed Arnold a thing or two, eh? LOL!

You a bit of an Arnold afficionado then, Pollux?

I used to love the guy too, but the Wendy Leigh book kinda showed him up for who he is.

I think she gave him a fair shake though. She detailed his good deeds too.

Mislabelled? How the hell could Arnold have overlooked that, assuming that he paid attention to the content of the book, which he most certainly would've.

Looking at those pics, the only guy who looked close to his bulk/quality was (I think) Franz Dischinger, a guy he used to train with. The others just looked shit.

As for being an 'Arnold aficionado'? Yeah, you can say that.  ;D

And the Wendy Leigh book was GREAT!  8)

Keep in mind though that Arnold's autobiography book was not solely done alone. Enter Douglas Kent Hall. In the E! True Hollywood Story, Douglas had been on camera as saying that Arnold missed his father's funeral because he was training for a contest -- WRONG!

Arnold himself said that wasn't the reason per Pumping Iron DVD.

So I can see why you would think 'How can Arnold himself be wrong about those photos?' I'm sure it was Douglas who was wrong.

Yes, Franz was Germany's 'It' man, till Arnold came along.  ;D

Christ, Nubret's trunk-furniture is obscene in that beach shot LOL!

I think Nubret is an example of a great set of parts. He didn't have the separated-but-together look that Arnold did.

Arnold had probably a little boy penis just like we all do, you gotta admire the beastness of nubret. He would not only get quality white daughter's, but please them as well.
Unlike Arnold who had to lick her for hour's and use finger's and dildo's and, and even then she asked arnold; "So are you in me yet"

haha   ;D

My cock's a big fat fuck!  :) He got bullied at cock-school...  :(

Pollux, so what d'ya think of Pumping Iron then? Is it just me or does everyone in that movie come off like a clown?

Louie Ferrigno and his dad Quincy. Matty gave up his cop job to train Louis! He clearly knew nothing about bodybuilding, and Lou was too dumb to see that.

Had to laugh in the gym in NY, preparing for defeat in Pretoria... I need ten pounds... I gadda do mooah! Then his voice leaped up a coupla octaves... I wanna BEAT um!

LOL at his half-rep military press!

Also, did you notice in the pose-off that Lou had neglected to shave his underarms?

Ah fuck it, it's only the most prestigious BB show of the year. It's not like there were cameras or anything...

I wouldn't say 'clowns' per se. Just not very charismatic.

I LOVE Pumping Iron, it's great! It would be the shit if they release an exclusive DVD box set containing yet MORE outtakes!

The Comeback can join the bandwagon and have its own DVD release. Say, a 27th anniversary special edition.  ;D

I will say Lou "The Incredible Jerk" Ferrigno definitely kept the humor in Pumping Iron. Now he, you can say, was a clown!  :D
